If you live in Japan, you can now place your order for one of the 1,000 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution Final Edition models before the Evo fades into history.
Autoevolution reports Mitsubishi isn’t saying how much power the Final Edition has under the hood, but the publication notes that the GSR-based Evo won’t have the 2-liter 4B11T turbo-four and its 473 horses from the Final Concept shown at this January’s Tokyo Auto Salon; the Final Edition uses a 2-liter MIVEC turbo, instead.
Aside from the turbo-four and Mitsubishi’s S-AWC AWD system, Final Edition owners can expect sodium-filled exhaust valves, 18-inch BBS wheels, Recaro seats, Bilstein and Eibach suspension pieces, and Brembo brakes for their ¥4,298,400 (approximately $36,000 USD). Owners can also choose from red, white, blue, black or gray and a white- or black-painted roof panel.
Orders for the 1,000 Evos began last Friday, with deliveries set for August. After that, the Evo will be no more the world over.
It’s the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo Final (We Had Leftover Parts) Edition!
Like those leftover TT-RS rear spoilers I see on every new Mk2 TT these days.
About time they get rid of the Evo X, worst driving position ever for a performance car.
One of the oldest cars still being made, or maybe THE oldest now that the XC90 has gone away. The soon-departed LR2 is ancient as well.
The only acceptable color (and the one with highest value later) is the STI blue.
I would take this over that 42000 kia minivan any day of my life. Roommate has a red lancer with 2.4 and all wheel drive and he loves it. It’s actually a pretty great car.
I dunno, the Kia van is more prestigious. People will know you have better credit.
600 vs 550?
LOL!
Lol while very true for 90% of people I see driving these, my roommate actually has outstanding credit and cross shopped his with a 300 hemi and ram 1500 hemi. He was just drawn to this in the end as it served his needs best. (We don’t have the same taste at all, I prefer my 20+ year old 1000$ jeeps).
Mitsu buyers are often very similar to Chrysler buyers.
Galant, Magnum, Sebring, 200, Dart, Eclipse, Lancer, Stealth, Avenger, Diamante, etc.
All of these are things found in the same place.
I beg to differ, actually. The Evo was never really cheap brand new. Those who bought new or leased could have done so just as easily with Lexus, BMW, etc.
Show me a guy with a brand new Evo and I’ll show you a young, childless IT professional how has his sh*t together.
This might be part of the reason why the Mitsu’s given up on the selling the car. I imagine there are a lot young, childless people with their sh*t together who’d rather a $40~ car with a badge than $40~ Mitsu.
Evo, maybe. But this guy’s roomie has a Lancer. That announces “I’m poor!” wherever ya go.
And yes x 1000 on the idea that you’d spend $40 on something -else- long before a Mitsu.
I’ll take both. This for fun and the Van so my wife can drive on our Atlanta trips and I can kick back in the second row recliner.
This article ….. doesn’t really say much.
1. “2-liter 4B11T turbo-four and its 473 horses from the Final Concept shown at this January’s Tokyo Auto Salon; the Final Edition uses a 2-liter MIVEC turbo, instead”
–The 4B11T has MIVEC, which is just Mitsubishi’s term for variable valve timing. It’s like this sentence: “Instead of the 6.2L LS3 V8, the Camaro will have the 6.2L OHV V8 instead.” That clarifies nothing.
2. “Final Edition owners can expect sodium-filled exhaust valves, 18-inch BBS wheels, Recaro seats, Bilstein and Eibach suspension pieces, and Brembo brakes for their ¥4,298,400 (approximately $36,000 USD).”
–I’m not sure about the sodium valves, but all of the other components are standard on an Evo X MR, and the price is in the same ballpark too. So WTF did Mitsubishi actually do to the car besides throw on a turbo/bolt-ons and crank up the boost? Improvements they should have done 5 years ago?
At any rate, I’m not in the market for a new car, but I’m thinking of picking up a high-mileage Evo X in the next year or so. Some are as low as ¥1.6-1.7M (about $14k), which is a steal for the level of performance you get. I miss my X every time I see one :(. In contrast, an LS376/525 crate engine and T56 Magnum would probably cost me ~$15k shipped to Japan. And I still need some sort of donor car…
Make mine red with a white top.
Good night, sweet prince…
