In related news: Istanbul has an auto show.
The new built-in-Turkey sedan is described as a “compact three-box,” hinting the model will be a fairly basic affair. We expect it to be a replacement for the Fiat Linea (pictured), a compact sedan sitting atop the GM Fiat Small LWB platform that currently underpins the Opel Meriva and Ram ProMaster City.
Fiat states the car will be sold in 40 countries in the Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region and will have “excellent interior comfort and load capacity.”
Again, Istanbul has an auto show.

Won’t it just be a renamed Viaggio?

Also, look at this Linea Sports Wagon!

Will there be an Alfa version? Volume!
There will be an Alfa JuliardCollege LWB with AWD. It will have a Lancia V8 from the Stratos.
It will cost $123,944 in base trim, and we will sell 29,000/mo by 2019.
That wagon doesn’t look half bad!
Yeah, very solid looking, and it gets rid of the poverty-India-spec look of the sedan.
I saw a Fiesta sedan the other day with “sporty” alloys. God damn, that looked “aspirational”.
Finally, the Turks will be able to get their hands on the sweet 2008 Focus that we were privileged to have in America.
They aren’t allowed to have the 2-door though. We’re keeping that gem.
It really suprised me when I found out they were bringing out a coupe version of the Focus. Predictably, they sold few. That generation of Focus reminded me a lot of the late 80’s Escort, but without a really cool looking GT version.
You could get a the SES trim on the 2-door, which kind of looked sporty. I would never say it was really cool looking though. Just better than the non-SES versions.
I was always amazed you could get headed seats in the Focus of that generation. It seemed like swinging above your weight class.
It was the first car to have Sync too. I remember my wife had a 2008 Focus SES for 6-8 months with leather, heated seats, and Sync.
I’m almost 100% positive you could get heated seats in the first-gen Focus (I didn’t check that box with my much-missed ’05 ST).
I drove a loaded 2011 SES sedan across the country back in 2010. I actually grew to like it after a while, sh1tty transmission be damned.
Ye olde 4 speed!
Yep, the 4F27. The irritating part was the control side where you only got Drive and Low positions on the shifter. Made for a herky jerky run through the rockies.
Yeah, the 2008 Focus mystified me.
The first-gen Focus had optional heated seats. I had a girlfriend with an ’07 SES 5-door that had them.
Those bumper cover seams are pure Cobalt.
Yep, you’re not kiddin.

Did they buy the Coda tooling from Great Wall Motors? I guess this explains why Fiat has been reduced to using the same styling features on all of its US models.
Well the Coda was based on the Hafei Saibao which is based on the fifth gen Lancer/Mirage. The Mirage was built by Diamond Star Motors in Normal, IL during the late 90s-early 00s. This was a joint venture with Chysler, which is now owned by FCA. It is the full circle of $hittiness.
You win today’s game of “Six Degrees of Shitty OEM Tooling.”
The body dies for the fabulous looking Cord 810/812 ended up being used to make the rather funny looking Hupmobile Skylark and Graham Hollywood. Not as unfortunate looking as the catfish looking Packardbakers of 1957 and 1958, but still not beautiful.
Graham is my favorite unknown automaker. I love their Spirit of Motion aka Sharknose.
And then Willys-Overland made their own similar yet different sharknose!
Amazing info there!
@Marcelo: we really do need that article on “The Origins and Genesis of FIAT vehicles 1995 – 2015”. Worthy pursuit of the “truth” if you ask me.
They still sell Mitsubishi based Jeeps. They’re selling ancient Mercedes based Chryslers, Dodges, and Maseratis. They have a current Mercedes based Jeep. They’re getting ready to rebadge some Mazdas as Fiats. They’ve got some old GM bones under small vans sold as Rams and Fiats. They’ve got PSA DNA in their large vans. I’m sure I’m missing something.
They say mutts make the healthiest dogs.
We used to have a Magnum R/T. It just seemed like a heavy car teetering around on the overwhelmed suspension of a much lighter car that had been costed out to the point where the transmission lacked a dipstick. With 100,000 miles, it rode like an NYC hack Crown Vic on its way to the shredder. Various dashboard components shape shifted with age to the point that they fell off too. OTOH, a friend has a CLS 500 of the same vintage and half the miles. He purchased it new, and its durability would have Rudolf Uhlenhaut spinning in his grave.
It seems like LX cars have improved a lot since they first came out. Much cheaper for Chrysler to refine the old car, than to start from scratch. Seems to be working, as twice-refreshed cars are getting much better reviews.
I’m still getting my mind around the GM Fiat platform being used on the Ram Promaster.
So true! Almost makes me doubt wikipedia!
easy on Istanbul. you don’t know the car culture there.
