Great the trucks are subsidizing even more of the volt.
You don’t actually know that. You could just as easily say that trucks are subsidizing the rest of the company’s products…and so what?
And if these trucks were overpriced, the market wouldn’t buy them. But, guess what? They’re selling like mad!
We’re talking Formula One here.

Sunday sales? I don’t think they should be banned. If the owners personal belief says he shouldn’t be open then he shouldn’t be open but to ban dealerships from being open is silly.
I was personally frustrated when living in MI how many dealers were closed on Sunday when I might actually have time to look.
Sunday is actually the day I just like to look and not buy. I dont like to be bothered. When I was growing up in NC it used to be illegal for them to be open but now they are and when I moved a few years ago it was hard to just window shop.
I think everyone makes too much over what day it is. I personally like the idea of closing a business for one day a week–whatever that day may be–to give their workers a break. No one likes working every weekend, which means retail jobs really stink when someone has to.
These laws allow the little guys to take a day off without fearing that they would be losing sales to somebody else.
Little guys can’t approve a sale. Big guys want the day off and to make sure all the other big guys stay home, too. Or it’s a religious legislative artifact. Either way, I doubt little guys were the reason.
The big guys can afford the overhead cost of staying open, and they can probably make it profitable. The little guys end up with more costs, but not necessarily more sales.
Ah, those good old Blue Laws. I agree. Here in Oklahoma, dealerships are banned from being open on Sundays, but I feel they should be free to decide.
Many dealers in Michigan don’t have Saturday hours. The dealership I’ve bought my cars from does not. There is only one Ford dealership within 25 miles of me (LOTS of Ford dealerships) that has Saturday service hours. It’s oil change/tire rotation only. Better be in line at 730-800 or the line reaches out to Woodward.
Dealers should simply be closed the day they have the least business. If that’s Tuesday – then close Tuesday.
I’m fine with the dealership I buy from being closed on the weekend. They are probably leaving sales on the table by not having Saturday hours. Maybe it keeps good people around long term. It’s an accomodating and low pressure dealership, so I overlook the fact I wouldn’t be able to drop my car off on a Saturday for something.
I think that not only should Sunday bans be rescinded but every state should also mandate that Sunday is Dealership Gay Day! Banners! Hats & Horns!

You would save about $1200 a year compared to a regular car if you charged up only. That’s huge.

I agree. The new Volt looks like a car instead of a toy. I expect it to sell much better, regardless of tech improvements. That being said, the tech improvements and lower price are huge. Once EVs are price-competitive with ICEs, I think there will be this massive “Aha!” moment when people realize how little they cost to operate.
It’s perfectly reasonable to spend $15k or more for fuel over the life of a vehicle. Running on electricity costs around one-third of gasoline, so that’s $10k saved on fuel over the life of the car. If the EV purchase price is less than $10k more than the comparable ICE car, then from a $$$ standpoint, it already makes sense.
Well those economics really have to factor in how long you keep the car. Most folks who buy new are not driving the same car for 10 years. Still though, if the Volt is within shooting range of a comparably equipped regular car it’s definitely worth a look. I think GM still isn’t marketing it right though. I didn’t know that it was a PHEV or what a PHEV was until I watched Alex Dykes’ review.
The matter of how it compares to similarly priced cars is what will really make the difference. I imagine it’s competitively equipped. If I didn’t want a wagon this could work. Or heck… I could put the $100 (plus really, my wife’s Rabbit is horrible on gas) I’d be saving towards an old Benz wagon or something……
The savings still isn’t there on a buy. A Cruze is still going to be $8K-$10K less, after tax incentive. It’s also going to really depend on your commute.
I do think the Volt is an excellent lease. That government money used as a capitalized cost reduction is great on a 24-36 month term.

I’m more interested in which model agency provides the little people who can look comfortable posing in Volts or Cadillacs like that Aztec-y dude there.
It’s ok for a guy to have 2 or 3 suits as long as he mixes up the ties on a daily basis, but a woman needs to have a different outfit for each day of the month or people start forgetting entirely about her job and just focus on her attire.

Along with the eminent domain rules in the US, it’s surprising there haven’t been a couple of dozen additional revolutions since 1776. You’re free unless you’re not, and it’s legal. Seems unconstitutional but I’m a foreigner used to the hand-waving Americans indulge in when boasting about personal, as opposed to governmental, freedom.
Not all American judges are “actual”. Some of them are political appointees wearing black dresses. The federales know which judges to go to, who can be persuaded that the government has a “compelling interest” in this or that. With our system, it’s not over until the appellate court cases have made their way to the US Supreme Court.
