Know someone looking for work? Tesla posted 30 job openings for its under-construction Gigafactory east of Reno, Nev.
The openings come on the heels of the automaker hiring 12 employees in Q1 2015, Reno Gazette-Journal reports. The total salaries came to $314,000, carved from the investment of $80.6 million made to the $5-billion battery production plant in the same period.
The positions Tesla is seeking to fill — as noted on its career site — include those in facility management, engineering, management and technology. Though wages weren’t disclosed on the aforementioned site, the newspaper notes Tesla’s original application called for a wage range between $22.79/hour and $51.83/hour to start.

They hired 12 people and spent $314,000. That’s $26,166 as an average, assuming they all made the same wage. That’s VERY low. As in $12.57/hr.
According to their posted salaries, they’d be paying $47,403 to $107,806.
Something isn’t adding up here, unless they’ve hired PT or seasonal employees or something – in which case good luck getting people to move to middle-desert-nowhere for PT and seasonal work.
Agreed, although they’re not going to get people in facility management, engineering, management, and technology for those wages.
I’d assume these professionals are being paid more – much more – than that.
Here’s an example: “The Facilities Mechanical Engineer is responsible for designing and delivering all of Gigafactory’s mechanical equipment in support of manufacturing.” This candidate had better be pulling in a pile of dough with that sort of responsibility.
That sounds like an upper 300K/year job.
But they will likely fill it with a foreign-born individual willing to take the job for $120K-150K. At least that’s been my experience.
It’s entirely appropriate that this factory is located out in the middle of a lot of hot air.
Highly unlikely such a job will pay close to $300k a year unless it has significant managerial responsibilities.
How is it a net zero energy factory? I’d like to see the accounting of the watts.
Since it hasn’t even been completed yet, your request would be very difficult to fill.
Whatever projections they are using to make the claim will suffice. What does the term mean exactly? What is and isn’t included?
If I remember correctly, they are also building an solar panel farm to power it.
Yep, check out the roof!
The amount they paid in wages was for the first quarter of 2015. Those jobs would be slightly over $100k/year each of they worked the entire Q1.
