Next week, the 2016 BMW 7 Series will make its debut. For now, however, fans will need to make do with a teaser.
The new 7 Series appears in a new teaser video, AutoGuide reports, with the 750Li variant the star of the video.
The June 10 world debut is the result of numerous reported leaks to the Internet from private viewings BMW held with its higher-profile consumers, pushing the debut up from September during the 2015 Frankfurt Auto Show as originally planned.
While exterior design is expected to be a small evolution, the new 7 Series will have a new platform with BMW’s Core Carbon carbon fiber and steel construction. Available features include remote control parking, laser headlamps, and gesture controls.

Wat fans does the 7 have. Its sales have been in freefall over the last decade. It looks really boring. Its not really good value compared to the superior S class. IDK. We will see about this one o
THANK YOU
The W221 and W222 have been such superior cars that the A8, BMW7 and just about anything else in the same class stand NO CHANCE AT ALL.
Mercedes is on a roll.
I bet this thing is going to weigh 500 pounds less than the previous model.
Not quite, the actual weight saving is 200 lbs.
Meanwhile GM has used good old steel and aluminum and come up with a dramatically lighter big car – 600 lbs lighter – in the Cadillac CT6. BMW has shoved a few expensive carbon fiber bits into the 7 and it’s still a weighty beast.
Wow really? That’s obviously less than I would have imagined.
Oh the suspense of a new 7-series BMW! Will it be boring and tacky, or will it be vomitously ugly? I can wait!
Remote control parking? Gesture controls? This can’t end well.
Needs LWB, its supposed to be a true luxury sedan for frack’s sake.
That is what the L in Li stands for. A 750i is short wheel base, 750Li is long wheel base.
I was referring to the image, we can’t tell but I suppose it is an “i” model. I certainly can’t afford this new but if I could I certainly wouldn’t but the “i” as it appears to be too small.
The length of the MY15 is 199.8 to 206″ per google, while the 5 is 193.4 to 196.8″. So in certain configurations the 5 appears to be nearly the size of the SWB 7, why am I buying a SWB 7? For the V8 people keep telling me isn’t needed anymore?
The Li variant shown is already LWB, yeah?
I can’t tell if the white car above is the new 7 or the old 7?
It looks like a big 3.
I would never think it but the Audi A8 looks like a better deal all round.
To be fair, Audi is all about the scaleable design.
I actually kinda like Audi’s “same car in small, medium and large” approach to design.
I really like the idea of an A8, and I had one before, but right now I’d get the A7 instead.
The current BMW 5, 6 and 7-Series (and obviously, then, the Rolls-Royce Ghost and Wraith) all share a platform. There’s talk of scaling that shared platform all the way down to the 3-Series. We shall see.
I have a gesture for BMW
COTD!
Now instead of Hyundai copying BMW, BMW is copying Hyundai.
It’s to see the ghost of Chris Bangle has now been completely exorcised.
Bangle designed the E46
Your beef is with van Hoodynk or whatever his name is.
I agree though, aside from the boring interior Im struggling to come up with a reason to get a 7 over a Genesis
BMW needs to do more with the 7 series to make it stand out. The styling is nearly generic and the technology neither new nor exciting. Either liven up the design or at least make it a showcase for all the funky tech from the i series. Even with a few added carbon bits, this is simply not enough to convince anyone to trade in their S class or arrest the cliff face depreciation that the 7 series suffers from.
BMW’s version of the Q45.
Anyone remember this commercial, from the introduction of the E38?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SxVUxg-vUiY
Man, I loved that car, and I loved that commercial. When was the last time that BMW had a “soul” to brag about? And what would compel any buyer to spend the same amount of dollars on a new 7-series that they could spend on an S-Class, or even an A8?
Thank you so much for posting that. I used to have an E38. I loved it. It was just so handsome. Every once and a while, I see one on the road and I can’t help but think, “man, BMW used to make some good looking cars.” Everything after the e39 seems so bloated. Except the i8. That’s a smash.
As mentioned, it looks like a 3-series, not a large 3-series, but an actual 3-series, as it is pictured above.
Just noticed that in the YouTube cover image above, the chrome trim doesn’t line up at all between both lights. Isn’t top fit and finish expected on a $75k+ car?
SNAP.
That’s not okay.
The last interesting 7-Series in my eyes was the 09 one where they softened the Bangle and it got the big brake lamps. And before that, the 740iL from 02, with the sports appearance package or whatever it was, where the Angel Eyes were slightly “lidded.”
I was at one of the private unveilings at their US headquarters. It has more chrome, the kidney grill is velocity and temperature sensitive and closes at high speeds for aero. It projects light onto the ground to help you see at night. It has different scents you can spray into the car. It has a samsung iPad thingy you can take out of the car with you. Bigger heads up display. The key has a display with info about the car (the one they had said “service needed” (not kidding). the right front passenger seat back has a foot stool thing that swings out. 0-60 in 4.3. carbon fiber pillars and other parts. updated headlights. gesture controls. self-steering up to 25 MPH. all of them will have L dimension, meaning large (deep) back seats. M sport package available with cosmetic yadda yadda. starlight effect in the sunroof due to etching in the glass. b and w stereo with lots of watts maybe 500 and diamond tweeter and carbon fiber cones. very tasteful event and well-chosen brand ambassadors.
Why would they do a key with a screen on it? That seems massively superfluous in the age of the smartphone. That seems like something that would’ve seemed “futuristic” a decade ago, but now just doesn’t make sense.
The reason is because they plan to have EV version of G11/G12 in not too distant future. The key fob with LCD is akin to i8’s . It tells battery charge level, location & etc.
None of that changes my overall point, which is that no one who buys a 7 series lacks a smartphone to handle those functions via an app linked to the car.
btw, the white car in the picture is NOT the new 7 series (but the hard core B&B probably already know that)
Between the huge popularity locally of the new S class and the amazing sales numbers of Tesla, I just don’t think there’s enough slices of the pie to also support the 7 series, the XJ and the LS. Not to mention the minimally successful attempts of Hyundai and Kia to nibble at the bottom of the high end. Something has to give. I know these cars are sold worldwide, but the US distributors can’t be doing well with dwindling volumes and rising marketing costs. One problem with the luxury market is that the marques offer so many styles that, unlike 30 years ago,the buyer has a choice between a used top of the line and a brand new middle size. Thus the demand and therefore the price of used top end cars has fallen. This raises the depreciation and ergo the lease costs, decreasing sales. I have no figures, but suspect the majority of the vehicles in this high end arena are leased, either for business or for “I want the latest model” reasons.
