If you’d like to own one of the most gorgeous pieces of American motorsport without paying seven figures at the next Barrett-Jackson auction, you might be in luck.
Shelby American is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its FIA World Championship win in style by offering up recreations of arguably the prettiest vehicle to ever wear the badge. The Daytona Coupe — of which only six original race cars were built — is making a comeback in your choice of fiberglass or aluminum and powered by 289 c.i.d. engine with the Coupe’s serial number if you so choose.
The run of aluminum units marks the first time Shelby has offered the Daytona Coupe in the metal since the original cars were built in 1964 and 1965.
The cars are being offered as rolling chassis and built to order with any engine or accessory configuration available from the Shelby catalog. While the original cars were all slightly different, Shelby American says they picked the best example of the six as a blueprint for the 50 unit production run.
Fiberglass examples will retail starting at $179,995 while aluminum copies, sans drivetrain, will command $349,995.
Expect to see the continuation examples at Gordon McCall’s Motorworks Revival, as part of Monterey Car Week, on August 12.

“Fiberglass examples will retail starting at $179,995 while aluminum copies, sans drivetrain, will command $349,995.” Or you could just buy the Factory Five kit for a lot less. Of course you wouldn’t have an ‘authentic Shelby replica’ then … roll eyes.
Yeah, I don’t see why a Factory Five or Superformance Daytona wouldn’t do it for the majority of people. A Coyote powered Daytona replica would be a hoot to drive.
The price made me double take too.
But in the global scene is it that outrageous? Those Eagle Speedster and the Jaguar low drag E-types are half a million pound sterling and up? Singer Porsches?
The billionaires market is where its at.
Are these built from frames titled in the 1960s but never used? [/snark]
