Porsche’s next-generation Panamera (likely 2017) was spotted going through its paces in Colorado this week. The new car will be the first MSB platformed car for Porsche, which is expected to underpin more Stuttgart models — and perhaps the Bentley Flying Spur.
Two models were visible in Colorado, including what could have been a Panamera S with a large rear spoiler. (Pictures after the jump.)
The stopover in Colorado is usually one of the last powertrain tests a car will undergo before its final announcement.
The two different tails can be seen below:

The lack of camouflage shows a sportier, sleeker shape, although the tail lamps and headlights were obscured by decals so we’ll have to wait for those details later.
Powering the Panamera could be a turbo six- or eight-cylinder engine as well as a plug-in hybrid variant (perhaps an all-electric version?).
Our friends over at Motor Authority have extensively photographed the car including the interiors.
I’ve always liked this car. I’ve tracked it, and they are literally everywhere where I live. I’m really only seeing modest changes in these photos. The rear fenders look a little beefier. Small changes in the rear window too I think.
I’m guessing from the quad tailpipes, both are S models. The one with the spoiler might be a Panamera Turbo with over 500hp.
Looks like the old one.
I would need my anorak on the tell the difference.
Maybe this is the point?
Will it have a diesel version, the right tailpipe looks very sooty?
YO! Will it come with a diesel engine?
Sure it’s not one car, with a retractable spoiler?
That’s what it looks like to me.
The rear lights look vaguely Pontiac(isch).
In fact, the whole B pillar back look like a muscular late model Grand Prix, right down to the spoiler.
At last, their vision is being recognized.
Those aren’t two different tails. That’s a deployable spoiler that has two different plates on top that spread to increase its width.
Yup. On the picture where it’s lowered, you can see the split line in the middle, below the rear-window wiper.
Still bulbous and awkward in the rear with an artificially extended roofline.
Such a letdown after the heart-stopping Mission E and gorgeous Panamera Sport concept from a couple years ago.
There are some side profile shots in the linked article with a full gallery and the rear end is actually much cleaner and has a lot less visual bulk. It’s more similar to the rear profile of the Audi A7.
I looked at them, and I disagree with your assessment. I see less A7 and more Crosstour in this rear end. The A7 comes to a graceful, thin point delineated by a small decklid. This is fat.
Intersting. According to the article, the roofline has improved and they are talking about as much as a 200lb reduction from the current car. From the other pictures, it looks cleaner overall.
Speaking of test mules here in the Colorado mountains, does anyone know of a company who is working on an upcoming roadster? A few days ago there were four heavily disguised Miata sized roadsters with their tops down driving around where I work in Summit County.
I was not fast enough with the iPhone camera (I was driving), and besides they were heavily disguised with black fabric dressings.
Could be Fiat 124 Spyder prototypes.
Did it look like this:

If so, you probably saw the fiat miata.
I am very eager to see how this car turns out. I love the fiat 500 abarth, so if they put out a car that has the driving dynamics of the miata with the engine and sound of an abarth….someone better hide my wallet
That is it !
Clarkson: “Hammond! I don’t like looking at your car!”
Hammond: “Oh, it’s hideous!”
Pleashed to meetch chu.
Not so bad. Less Igor the Brain Fetcher and more Porsche.
In the early days of the 356, everyone was griping about it looking like a bathtub, but the design has aged well. Same for the 911. Same for the Eiffel Tower, for that matter (haters at first; accepted later on). i think they will age well and the interiors and performance of the (turbo) Panameras are awesome.
Looks like a 4 door 928.
Looks like an old Panamera….who cares. I’m waiting for the re-release of the Cavalier.
I saw four of these black test cars stopped at a light in Marina Del Ray, CA last week.
