Nissan on Monday released a teaser of a new crossover concept car that will be unveiled this month at the Frankfurt Auto Show.
The crossover, which Autocar suggested could be the next Z, could also be its next-generation Juke, which should be updated by 2017.
According to the automaker, the concept could be a “new way to feel driving excitement” (Nissan left it open to the reader) because some of us get hot and bothered when we see a crossover.
Whatever it’s named, the crossover will likely be built on Nissan’s CMF B global platform and could hold a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine under its hood.
The crossover will be shown later this month when the Frankfurt show opens on Sept. 15.

The race is on to make their cars as ridiculously ugly as possible in as short a span of time as possible. They’re doing wonders over there!
All that’s left to do is strap a “barely-adequate” engine to a soul-less CVT transmission.
So Acura and the ‘beak’, and now Nissan and the ‘bottle opener’.
And the predator-look Lexus.
Nissans / Infiniti has become the chick cars of the decade. All swooping lines old school Pontiacs of the Japanese world.
Using extreme chiaroscuro to tease a new product only works if the revealed portion isn’t plug ugly.
Looks as if this thing is developing anterior finlets like the new Murano has those posterior ones.
Nissans probably never sold on aesthetics, but they certainly cannot now.
What can? Between CAFE and safety standards precious little latitude is left designers. They’re like kids in an extremely oppressive boarding school; any chance they get to show some individualism comes out totally twisted from the pressure within.
The new Volvo XC90 is one of the safest things out there and it is pleasing to the eye. Mainstream designers are devoid of taste, do too much cocaine, or both. Unemployment on them all.

I would also count the ’89 Maxima and the ’90 300ZX as attractive Nissans. I can also appreciate the aesthetic coherency of the 2004 Quest.
New car designs make me sad.
I’m serious.
If it’s the Juke say it’s the Juke. The Juke is ugly in a strangely endearing way, I like that. Dancing around what this is, hinting that it’s a crossover that could also be the new Z is BS and damaging to the Z besides. Another crossover, hmmmmm, how utterly underwhelming. Can someone send all the designers and product planners away and get some people who actually like cars in there? Seriously, there’s way too much focus-groouping and social media monitoring claptrap going on. Get some some serious car people who design things right and say take it or leave it. For now, I’m leaving it.
I don’t care if it looks like the second coming of the Jag E Type. It’s yet another Cross-Over.
For now I will call it the N-Trail. Please let me know which day to eat a light breakfast.
