As national contract talks begin between the UAW and FCA US, the union’s lead negotiator for FCA says most of the locals have tentative agreements ready.
United Auto Workers Chrysler Department head of labor negotiations Norwood Jewell said in a letter to the union’s members Monday a few of the remaining locals were “having challenges reaching an agreement,” The Detroit News reports. The locals negotiate their own contracts — covering individual plant rules and issues — at the same time the union as a whole hammers out a national contract with the automakers.
If the tentative agreements fail to be reached by midnight, the current agreements will likely be extended with little fanfare. Jewell added the following regarding the deadline notice:
Although we have been meeting for months now, there are still many items of importance to be reconciled. The current four-year contract is due to expire tonight. It is our goal to structure a new agreement for your approval.

so how much is enough? im union, and i think im paid quite well for what i do, and get decent benefits. so well, in fact, i was able to afford to drop down to part time status. in at 5am, out at 1030.
i wonder if this would be a feasible option to consider for some other workers?
I didn’t know Doc Severinsen was a spokesman for the UAW.
