Tesla Motors’ revolving door better be generating power considering all the use it’s getting. Tesla Motors’ VP of Global Communications, Ricardo Reyes, has either chosen to part ways with the Silicon Valley automaker or been shown the door by security.
The departure comes just weeks before Tesla Motors is to reveal its newest electric vehicle, the Model 3, on March 31. It is expected to sell for approximately $35,000, Bloomberg reports.
Reyes held the post for 18 months after a stint at electronic payment company Square, and he worked at Tesla in the same post from 2009 to 2012, before his stint with Square, making this Reyes’ second departure from Tesla.
Bloomberg said Reyes refused to comment on the departure. No official statement has been posted on the Tesla Motors blog.
Reyes’ LinkedIn profile still lists him as working for Tesla Motors in the recently departed position, giving more credence to the possibility that his leaving might not have been completely his own decision.
No replacement for Reyes was reported by Bloomberg.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but so what? It’s one Silicon Valley exec joining/leaving a company. Hardly seems newsworthy unless a bunch of execs move at the same time.
Tesla is always weeks away from a major announcement, so I don’t see anything ominous about the timing. Should he have waited 10 years for things to settle down a bit in Tesla’s PR department?
Maybe one of Apple’s engineers will be joining the Tesla fold in the very near future.
I doubt that, given one of Musk’s more tender quotes:
“They have hired people we’ve fired. We always jokingly call Apple the ‘Tesla Graveyard.’ If you don’t make it at Tesla, you go work at Apple. I’m not kidding.”
This was my reaction. So what?
Do we get a news story every time a division VP leaves any manufacturer?
Seems like the headline draws a connection where one doesn’t exist
“Is something wrong with the Model 3? How scandalous, I better click….”
the timing is noteworthy. The guy in charge of PR, marketing, and a bunch of other stuff jumping ship prior to the reveal of what might be Tesla’s most important car yet?
or pushed off the ship. If they failed to perform, they were shown the door. Simple as that. Isn’t that what happens at other companies?
Look at the sales, Stanley Steamer had more impact when it was around
I wouldn’t draw any conclusions from his LinkedIn profile. I just changed jobs, and it took me a week before I got around to updating my profile there.
This fellow is a job jumper. His departure says more about him than it does about Tesla.
If he first bailed in 2012, that was right when the Model S was coming out. Maybe he just doesn’t like the hard work that accompanies big product releases.
“The man who told you you’d be able to get a Model 3 for under $35,000 is no longer with the company – there must have been some mistake”…
The $35,000 price point IS NOT GONNA HAPPEN.
Even if they claim it on the sticker, he shortages will ENSURE you don’t get one under $50,000. You’ll see.
As a shareholder I watch their every move. Smoke & Mirrors for sure.
Not a big deal. Can you buy BMW 3 series for $35000? Or Merc C-Class? Okay how about Lincoln MKZ?
>> Even if they claim it on the sticker, he shortages will ENSURE you don’t get one under $50,000. You’ll see.
Are the dealers going to mark them up? Oh yeah, never mind…
Are you still P-O’d about how much people are willing to pay for Teslas? You need to save-up more.
The reason why you won’t find any cheap Tesla is the same reason why nobody makes a $15,000 full-sized pickup. Why sell cheap when people are willing to pay a whole lot more?
As a shareholder, you should realize that high demand and high transaction prices are good things, even if it means you can’t afford to drive a Tesla on a Hyundai budget.
The $35000 price point must happen (or at least be available) if Tesla is to survive.
Competitors such as the Chevy Bolt and Leaf 2.0 will ensure it.
Elon has Twitter. Why does he need a VP of communications?
On second thought, he probably does need someone to filter his tweets.
I think they should have gone with a lighter color.
*I’ll be here all week*
Tesla is the only US car company worth a damn.
