Have you been considering a new BMW but only have enough coin to buy one of Bavaria’s finest? At least one BMW dealer in the U.S. might have a solution.
If you don’t mind buying a new BMW that’s been languishing on the lot for a year, Century West BMW will throw in a lease on a BMW i3 on the house.
The above ad was sent via email to a previous customer of Century West BMW in North Hollywood, California, and it looks to be a case of hitting two birds with one stone: clear out the old 2015 BMW inventory and make way for an upgraded BMW i3 at the same time. Buy a model year 2015 BMW and that 2016 BMW i3 hidden behind the container at the back of the lot is all yours, at least for a little while.
Here are the finer points:
Pricing varies based on customer’s selection of vehicles. See dealer for all price and payment terms. Four purchase and lease offers available. Customers must purchase an eligible 2015 BMW vehicle for dealer to include a lease on an eligible 2016 BMW i3. Offers expire 06/31/2016.
Eligible 2015 BMW Vehicles: ZA 35i (VIN: J799148); M235i CV (VINs: V393059, V393315); 335i (VINs: K472850, K472907, NT09009, NT09420); 535d (VIN: D691423); 550i (VIN: D961319); 650I CP (VIN: D248365); 750Li (VINs: D782039, D781838, D781887, D781911, D782118); X5 xd50i (VINs: 0J77838, 0J78220); X6 xd35i (VINs: 0F96561, 0F96421, 0N77789); X6 xd50i (VINs 0R33552, 0F94402, 0F94397); X6 M (VINs 0G93677, 0G93999). Eligible 2016 BMW i3 VINs: V160135, 160129, 160103, 16969.
As this deal isn’t publicly advertised, is this a case of BMW trying to unload unwanted inventory on the sly?

Im not a huge fan of the brand, but the deals being offered right now on non-CUV & non-“M” BMWs are quite attractive.
FIRST! Oh wait, you aren’t BTSR. Carry on.
Nobody wants an i3. Booooooooring
I’m with my father.
Wasn’t online.
I’ll try harder next time.
Thought I might find your HELLCAT in Merrick today…
BTSR: Good man.
I don’t know how much better deals get when you actually go out to shop but the advertised base 328 36 month lease works out to 490 a month before taxes. For vinyl seats and four cylinders. Awfully hard to see the value in that.
Btsr is an expert on boring, after all he owns a Fiat/Chrysler product, it doesn’t get anymore boring than that.
You must be trying to tempt my wrath.
You can do better than that.
Just remember to obey TTAC’s Terms of service.
BMW is to today as Cadillac was to the 70s. Volume chasing to the point of bloat, banking off a reputation that vanished long ago. They’re so cynical about it they don’t even want you to have their products longer than three years.
First: I don’t know why this isn’t commonly stated, but the i3 has perhaps the best design work of any interior currently available, particularly the dash, and I’d want one just for that. Admittedly, the short battery life and the driving experience will leave you plenty of time to admire the interior, it’s true.
So, an M235i daily driver and an i3 baby schlepper for around town as a freebie? This sounds like a great deal to me. The question is whether my wife would give up her manual E91 baby schlepper for the i3. Putting it that way, not too damned likely.
The i3 is absolutely hideous. The Pontiac Aztek of the segment.
I don’t think they are that bad, especially for what they are. They are also pretty common around here.
I’d much rather drive an i3 than the new Prius….
Sure, a recycled fiberboard interior may be “best design work”, but they wouldn’t age well when the car hit 10-15 years old for sure.
never go full retard.
but thats what they did with that e-machine
I’ve seen this deal before (how else do you think Chrysler sold all those 2005 PT Cruisers?), but typically you had to buy the intended vehicle at MSRP without incentives, and the combined lease deal or value of the freebie car was less than what you would have saved by negotiating or applying incentives.
Given the list of i3 vins, literally as many as 4 people can take advantage of this deal.
I noticed that too. It’s presented as BMW, but this is just a sales trick by a BMW dealer and certainly not the first time this has been done.
I’ve seen at least one Maryland BMW dealer advertise a very similar deal on their website earlier this year.
“Offers expire 06/31/2016”
June 31st? How do they do that?
The i3 is hideous. It is especially hideous in brown.
The X5 50i, 550i and 750i would be the only cars I’d buy on that list.
“The i3 is hideous. It is especially hideous in brown.”
So it’s especially hideous in a color it doesn’t come in. I see.
BMW owners always take it in the brown. I’m sorry…let me correct myself….BMW lessees, always take it in the brown.
Who wants an i3 when you can have an i7? Oh wait…nevemind this isn’t Tom’s Hardware forum…forgive me. Carry on.
BMW i3….LOL!!!! Steve Erkel, your car is ready.
I test drove the i3 for a gift card last Xmas, and it is flawed for 2 reasons:
1) the suicide rear door and tucked into the back rear seat. Imagine putting rear facing car seats in the rear.
2) the release the accelerator pedal and suddenly regen like there’s no tomorrow braking. You are forced to hold the accelerator pedal constantly if you want to cruise at a constant speed without using cruise control.
I’d pick a Leaf, a plug in Prius, or a Volt, and pocket the price difference instead of the i3.
