General Motors has decided to cut ties with Alphons Iacobelli, the former Fiat Chrysler Automobiles labor relations chief accused of embezzling funds earmarked for worker training. That money is believed to have gone into extensive home renovations, the installation of a pool, personal credit card expenses, the leasing of a private jet, a $350,000 Ferrari 458 Spider, and two Mont Blanc pens worth $37,500 each.
While GM suspended Iacobelli in July (after federal officials charged him for his alleged role in a multi-million dollar criminal conspiracy during his time at FCA), it only recently confirmed his departure from the company.
Automotive News is reporting he may have been fired several months ago. However, General Motors has declined to comment on the specific details or timing of the separation. David F. DuMouchel, an attorney for Iacobelli, has likewise declined to disclose his client’s employment status.
GM hired Iacobelli as executive director of labor relations in January 2016, roughly seven months after he left FCA in June of 2015 under vaguely suspicious circumstances.
Iacobelli is one of four people charged in a case involving the misuse of $4.5 million intended for the UAW-Chrysler National Training Center’s employee programs. The other defendants include retired UAW associate director Virdell King, former FCA financial analyst Jerome Durden, and Monica Morgan, the widow of UAW Vice President General Holiefield.

Is GM so desperate to fill jobs that it doesn’t bother to do simple background checks on its hires?
It can be tough to get hard info without breaking the rules. FCA was undoubtedly tight lipped if asked about him, limiting their answer to dates employed. Using private investigators has gotten GM in trouble in the past. The complicit UAW people probably sang his praises, though, making him look better to a GM hoping to improve labor relations.
Well if I was a GM honcho, bringing on one of Big Serge’s “espresso swilling minions” seems like a bad choice. But given all the dirty deals with the UAW that apparently were going on in Motown, who knows what the real stories are.
His best friends Anthony Soprano, Peter Paul “Paulie Walnuts” Gualtieri, and Salvatore “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero all personally vouched for his honesty.
What about Silvio Dante?
He was busy with the E Street Band and unavailable to assist.
If Tony, Big Pussy and Paulie were running GM, at least we would have proper Cadillacs!
Maybe FCA lied about his performance just to screw them. Like when GM gave Ford Max Wollf to design for Lincoln and the best he did was the hideous MKZ only to be demoted months after.
The situation with the expensive pens has been cleared up. It seems that he just made the mistake of buying them from the service department’s parts counter at a local GM dealership.
I’d like to see this pen.
This is the most expensive one I could find on their website. The Duke of Milan. It’s only ten thousand dollars. You are not permitted to buy this online, you must “contact the Client Relation Center…or visit a boutique”. I presume there is an application process to determine worthiness.
A f_cking pen boutique. The rich really are different.

I’ve seen a Mont Blanc Skeleton pen listed for $80,000 on ebay.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he actually bought a two pen set for $75K.
Whose skeleton is it made from? If it was like, a pope, I could see that.
This reminds me of when I was in management at a company that gave me a bonus check, because we didn’t lose as much as we thought (we lost a lot of money). There is no understanding of the delusions that CEO’s and management think. Once elevated, including the trophy wives every thing is (ir)rational.
While at FCA he couldn’t get an employee pricing discount on the Ferrari?
this is why we will never beat the Japanese. overpaid execs not worth their salt.
Two Mont Blanc pens worth $37,500 each.
GM discovered that they both write in RED INK only.
So they fired him. They also hopefully fired the absent exec who was his boss.
“and two Mont Blanc pens worth $37,500 each.”
But did they write under whipped cream? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heavenly_Daze
I’d love to see his golden parachutes quantified.
To heck with the “$37.5K” pens headline, what about the MILLIONS he likely shafted GM labor of, with his serial behavior?
There’s a special circle in Hell for these cynical, self serving “executive” jerks. But first, he should spend major time behind bars – plus restitution.
Wow. And all that money saved by spelling it GAGE goes down the drain…
Seriously, notice how every single one of these high-level schmucks from the garbage department of FCA is a self-aggrandizing carpetbagger?
