First Quarter
Well, so far we’ve had car-adjacent spots for Fast 9 and for the Daytona 500. Still waiting for something good.
Porsche – we saw this one for the Taycan early last week. Still cool.
Second Quarter
Well, that was an eventful first quarter..of football. Commercials – not so much.
Hyundai – a bunch of annoying Bostonians upset that Tom Brady isn’t playing tonight.
Genesis – Chrissy Teigen and John Legend show us the luxury of the new GV80.
Weathertech – I guess it’s automotive-adjacent. It’s just a damned cute dog.
GMC/Hummer
LeBron James and the new Hummer EV to be built in Hamtramck. Really, it should be built in Lordstown – not far from LeBron’s hometown of Akron!
HALFTIME
What is with Terry Bradshaw’s hat?
Third Quarter
I’m a bit disturbed by that Sam Elliott/Lil Nas X ad. Not even sure what it was selling.
Kia discusses youth homelessness while introducing the Seltos.
Fourth Quarter
Robin Sparkles – excuse me, Cobie Smulders – fits everyone into the 2021 Toyota Highlander.

That Genesis commercial was cringy AF. Who is that supposed to appeal to?
Pontiac and Cadillac did better riffs off ‘old stodgy luxury’ back in the day.
I just thought the Genesis commercial was just plain strange (not really cringy). And that’s with the qualification that I generally like John Legend and Chrissy Teigen.
I disliked the ad overall, too (Chrissy Teigen is best appreciated in silence) but I did appreciate the exaggerated wait for the GV80 reveal. One last “it’s taken Genesis forever to introduce an SUV” wink.
When the Genesis crossover appeared, my mother-in-law sat up straight and said “Wow, nice car! What is that?” Then they showed the interior, and she said, “Mama mia!” So apparently it’s supposed to appeal to women in their late 60s.
Agree with you, though. I can’t wait until the phrase “is that a thing” isn’t a thing anymore.

I liked the Gladiator spot. But an orange Jeep? Show me one, in real life they are all black. Or gray.
My Jeep is orange with pretty beige seats, stickshift *and* 4×4– they totally exist!
Orange has been the official color of SUV PR for a couple of years now.

Seltos sounds like the name of a new antacid, pharmaceutical or a Greek island. Nonetheless it seems to fit in as an entry cute ute just below a Sportage but for folks who want something more rugged than a Soul.
The title is so funny because while I know LIV means 54th in roman, I chose to read it as LIVE but somebody forgot the E, while also not being live at all. That’d be so TTAC!

Of the two, I liked the spots for the Gladiator and the Highlander the most.

Someone wrote here, on TTAC years ago, ‘when you try to be cool, super hip, edgy, extra funny – you end up looking uncool.’ (i was about Ford)
After the first 12-15 commercials i said to my sister, these commercials are vomit inducing. All were trying way too hard to funny or cool.
I turned it off late in the 2nd 1/4 and watched the Breaking Bad marathon and monitored the score. Half way thru the 4th i turned it back on.
Perfect execution on my part.

I feel like the whole superbowl commercial thing jumped the shark about five years ago. This year doesn’t make me feel any different.
My wife said of the Highlander commercial – “From ‘How I Met Your Mother’ to Toyota Commercial?”
Something about the external styling of the Highlander bugs me, it looks more like a Forester blown up 25% than even the Ascent does.

The parent company of TTAC would be Vertical Scope , 60 percent owned by Toronto Star ,AKA Pravda . I’m shocked at Tor Star for even allowing this . The censors were asleep at the switch ?

Something I just caught on the Porsche ad: The “bad guy” Taycan is very very fast in Reverse gear (because it’s electric) – which explains why the driver can and does back down the city street.
