To say there’s a groundswell of enthusiasm for the returning Ford Bronco would be an understatement. Bronco diehards have been champing at the bit for a taste of the resurrected model, which saw its debut and production start delayed by the industry-wide coronavirus shutdown. Hell, a low-mileage, four-speed ’79 example just sold for $64,500 on Bring a Trailer.
On Thursday, Ford revealed the off-roader will drop its camouflage next month.
The landing page for the new Bronco added the information today; company reps, exhausted by so many fruitless requests for details by salivating journos and prospective buyers, eagerly disseminated the new tidbit of info.
While the Bronco was originally expected to be an auto show showpiece, trade shows seem to be a thing of the past for now. The two-month shutdown of production pushed timetables back; deliveries of the Bronco aren’t expected until early 2021. Before that, the less interesting, Escape-based Bronco Sport will tempt the soft-roader crowd.
What we know about the upcoming vehicle is that it will boast two or four removable doors, a top-down option, and a choice of 2.3-liter Ecoboost four-cylinder and uplevel 2.7-liter twin-turbo V6. The spare tire will be mounted where the owner can actually get at it in a hurry. Sources tell us the base mill can be had with a 10-speed automatic or seven-speed manual, while the V6 is auto-only.
And yes, the intolerable wait for this particular product has led to several leaked images hitting the web.
There’s still plenty to learn about the Bronco, and Ford’s tightly clutching those details, lest any more of the vehicle’s surprise factor be stolen by internet sleuths. July should bring more than just socially distanced hot dogs and fireworks.

As soon as it debuts the comments will be flooded with “not a fan of” comments.
Too bad it isn’t a Hyundai/Kia…then they’d be fans.
IMO, humble of course, Telluride puts anything Ford is capable of coming with to shame. Shame on you Ford!
Anything? I mean I haven’t driven a new GT but I have been behind the wheel of an 05 GT as well as well as both a Mustang GT350 and 500.
Frankly cars like this are like going to WalMart in sweat pants…a solid way to announce to the world “Hey, I’ve given up on life!”.
I actually am greatful for the last gen Santa Fe though…so boring and bland was it that my wife was eager for me to get a Challenger which at the end of the day has been by far the best thing about that car.
Word is that it will be offered with the special Not Guilty package — white exterior and it only goes 40 mph.

Not convinced it will be as good as advertised but still interested in checking it out.
I think it will be good, because Ford really does know how to make a capable off-roader, IF it ever gets here
Hype is just that, hype. If it has the same off-road prowess as a Jeep and is more durable, it will sell. The advantage Jeep has is twofold; a huge fan base that ignores all of its flaws and a huge aftermarket.
Are there any parts coming out of the Ford parts bin?
You know like that T-Bird which some people paid thousands over sticker for?
Then a year later you could get thousands off the sticker?
Dealers all do this. I noted a 10k “Market Adjustment” on 3 Challenger Scat Pack widebody 50th anniversary cars last night, which was odd considering I was there for a still there in June of 2020 2019 R/T manual.
Same with the Civic Type R. I should note, there was no markup on either of the Shelbys though they wouldn’t budge from sticker. Chevy dealer also was happy to sell me a C8 at MSRP if I was willing to wait.
Having said that, I’m sure some of these will see markups as some dealers are just shady. A friend of mine’s father who was a career car salesman would describe this situation as “when 2 fools meet”.
I don’t think markups will last long on this. They were dealing on a Gladiator when I was in last night. I’d expect the timeframe the Bronco will support such pricing nonsense to be pretty short as well.
These adjustments are idiotic nowadays. With the internet in your pocket it usually isn’t hard to find some dealership somewhere selling at sticker on something like this. Even under sometimes. It only really works on things like a Demon or something where multiple buyers are in line for it. Just wait the 3-6 months for the initial demand to subside, if that long. Or be an idiot and win the internet for a few months and be upside down forever on it.
Not sure there has been a future vehicle that has had such a huge volume of hype and rumor as this Bronco. It has been going on for many months on every automotive website, and it actually is rather tiresome.

YES on the the 5th gen Camaro. I swear I thought the car had been on sale for 3 years already by the time it actually hit the dealer lots.
I think it had starred in 2 movies prior to ever going on sale.
At this point I just want the “Build Your Own” function to go up on Ford’s website. Price determines much about how I feel about a vehicle – got to be able to reference price to feature content.
I’d use the Tahoe as a reference. I actually like the new Tahoe but the build and price is about $20K too high on the base model.

But using the Tahoe as a reference? That’s just weird. The only real competitor for the vehicle would seem to be the Jeep Wrangler. Other vehicles that potential buyers might cross-shop would seem to be the new much more expensive Land Rover Defender and possibly the Toyota 4Runner, but that’s about it.
I expect the new Bronco to cannibalize sales from Ford’s own Explorer, Edge and Escape and also from the Ranger.
GM cannot bring themselves to admit they ruined the styling of these trucks. It is one of the main reasons the RAM line has surpassed them in sales. GM has cancelled most of their cars so they better start making decent trucks.
