Hoo-ah. While some readers might argue that Cadillac still has a long way to go to recapture the prestige it once enjoyed, maybe they’d feel differently if their house — or body — emitted the rich scent of the crested marque. Whatever that might be…
According to a U.S. trademark application, it would seem that Cadillac wants to get back into the fragrance game.
A trademark application uncovered by Cadillac Society and picked up by Motor1 reveals at least some desire to market scented products under the Cadillac name. Filed back in January but only posted by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in May, the application covers room fragrances, body soaps, perfumes and colognes, and candles.
A perfect gift idea for that special someone who’s just bought a second-hand ATS with the base 2.5-liter.
Unlikely lifestyle products are the norm among higher-end automakers, though premium divisions of mainstream companies might have a harder time pulling off such an effort without garnering their fair share of eye-rolling and jokes. While the products listed in the application haven’t yet materialized in the real world, this wouldn’t be the first time Cadillac stamped its name on a fragrance line.
Back in 2008 (undoubtedly a great era for GM), Cadillac rolled out a line of fragrances for men, tempting blokes who like to spice up their evenings with hints of wild mint, bergamot zest, cloves, geranium, grapefruit, tarragon, chamomile, cinnamon, and fresh cedar. These products disappeared after 2012, but can still be found online if you’re willing to do some searching.
Now, all of this begs the question: what does Cadillac smell like?

Synthetic Musk is a popular base note for fragrances (brush up on your organic chemistry):

(If you are brave enough to look at the wikipedia article on [non-synthetic] “Musk”, be careful which words your cursor hovers over.)
“Synthetic Musk”
Elon has gone robotic?
That does explain “X Æ A-12”
From Cadillac to SR-71 in two hops – gotta love that.
Knocked out about 6 of these last summer:

Technical diffic
A Cadillac should smell like an old school steakhouse. Good cigars, single malt Scotch, and a hint of steak.
A Jaguar should smell of leather and overheated oil.
Subaru should smell like a dog.
What exactly does mediocrity smell like?
Grease, gas and just a hint of burning wires
Is Melody Lee back? If this doesn’t bring Deadweight back from the beyond nothing will ;-)
This idea stinks.
But… but… all the “other” luxury brands are doing it! GM licensing does not live by Chevy bar stools alone (though that’s a gold mine in itself).
It just makes no scents!
I’m here all week — try the Caesar salad!
I wonder what they think of this idea down at the Ol’Factory?
(Now you have my two scents worth.)
Nicely done! :-D
I can picture the commercial, cue Robert Duvall… ” I love the smell of Cadillac in the morning”
On the one hand I’m glad Cadillac is at least trying to still make something other than soccer mobiles, ala Lincoln. On the other hand…look at them.
BMW already offers fragrance sticks so they’re a little behind the curve on this one. Off-the-record they smell pretty good too.
I’m going with Axe.
My old Chevy Impala reeked of Eau de Cheeseburger. For Cadillac, they should go for an upscale edible. What does caviar smell like? OTOH, there’s a bigger, younger market for Avocado on Toast.
So sort of like how Third Gen F Bodies smell like Marlboro Reds and Stale Busch Light?
