It’s 10 p.m. Do you know where your Ford with Takata airbags is?
Ford needs to recall just 45 Takata airbags from 2004-2006 Rangers, but it lost track of which trucks have them. So it’s recalled just over 153,000 old Rangers instead, hoping that casting such a wide net will allow the company to find and replace the faulty airbags.
The airbags were apparently not factory-installed, but rather part of the service stock used for repairs after a crash or theft. It’s possible faulty airbags were installed by techs during repairs.
Additionally, around 1,100 vehicles could’ve also gotten faulty Takata airbags after repairs. The list includes: 2004 through 2011 Rangers, 2005-2014 Mustangs, 2006 Ford GTs, 2008-2012 Fusions, 2007-2010 Ford Edges, 2009-2011 Mercury Milans, 2010-2012 Lincoln MKZs, and 2007-2010 Lincoln MKXs.
Ford says it is not aware of any injuries or crashes involving or caused by the faulty bags. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has asked the company to check its cars for these airbags.
Dealers will perform an inspection and replace the airbags if need be. Owners will begin getting notified by March 8th.

Honda’s Takata strikes again…
@Tim Healey, thanks but is it only Rangers ’04 to ’06 that have, or could have replacement “dealer” airbags? I mean if you don’t know its (crash or theft) history from day one?
Sticking just to Rangers, then there’s, say a couple hundred from ’04 to ’11 that definitely have suspect/bad (replacement/replaced) airbags that are linked to specific VIN? And those aren’t part of, or overlap the 153K Ranger recall I assume? Or if they are, or do, I guess they could be on their 2nd replaced airbag?
Even 153K seems low for 3 years of Ranger production in that era.

Same problem that Honda has. It’s really hard to track down old cars. Not to mention the fact that some owners think recalls are for chumps.
