Lost in all the Maverick talk there is some Ford Raptor news. Could it be that the Maverick is getting a Raptor trim?
Nah, brah. At least, not officially as of yet. Instead, the Raptor returns with … the same amount of power as it had before.

Motor1 is reporting, via FordAuthority, that the brand’s 2021 RV and towing guide shows that the 3.5-liter EcoBoost turbo V6 will continue to make 450 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque, though the peak horsepower will come on a bit higher, at 5,850 rpm instead of 5,000. Peak torque will be slightly more accessible at 3,000 rpm, instead of 3,500.
As has already been reported, the truck is slated to be able to tow 8,200 pounds, with a max payload of 1,400 pounds.
If you’re disappointed that power hasn’t increased, keep in mind a 700+ horsepower Raptor R is on the way.
And keep the flame burning for a Maverick Raptor, because that just plain sounds fun.

The more possible option, for sure. A Maverick ST could have the 2.3T and 300-350 hp, maybe if we are dreaming, the AWD system from the Focus RS

An ST [with the 2.3T] sounds great, but off-road is super “in” right now, so my money is on a Tremor trim with the Bronco Sport Badland’s mechanicals.
Meh, I’ll stick with the upcoming tundra 3.5TT. Had the base Raptor had 500+HP, I would have considered it.
It’s the first new truck I’ve considered buying in years. I no longer need the versatility of my Fullsize and the 13MPG average I pull has done me no favors over the years.
Probably going directly for the Hybrid model and hoping this can be a 15 year truck like my current truck.

With a max payload of 1400 lbs, you won’t be able to safely tow more about a 6,000 lb GVW travel trailer with a family (6000 lbs @ 13% tongue weight is 780 lbs + 100 lbs for a WDH + say 400 lbs of family+ 150 lbs of tools and camping gear such as grills, bikes, chairs and the like) puts you over payload limits. That’s a 20′ trailer. And the vast majority of Raptors won’t have close to that much payload, as that is for the lowest level raptor they make without a single extra option.
Nope, the Raptor does many things well, but towing a travel trailer is not something it should really ever be doing.

Maverick is truthfully a much better name for a truck than it was for the sh*tbox cmpact car it was originally used for.
That said, I’m stil a bit mystified why Ford would choose to resurrect a rather undistinguished chapter in their history by reminding people about it. Maybe they simply figure most of the target market doesn’t remember it at all, it’s a cool-sounding name and they own it, so what the hell?
