The same forum that told us to anticipate the order bank opening for the 2022 Ford Lightning next week is now saying “not so fast, my friend” (apologies to Lee Corso).
A forum user saw a note from a dealer suggesting that the order-bank opening has been delayed to December. The note was posted in a Facebook group.
The note says the truck will still be delivered on time.
Here it is, in full, with curses directed at whoever shared a screen shot I can’t C and P: “Unfortunately, the Lightning order banks will not be opening next week. They will now be opening in December 2021. I will reach back out in December to scheduled [sic] appointments to order Lightnings at that time. The arrival of the Lightning has not been delayed and is still due to arrive in mid-2022. Thank you.” I’ve redacted the salesperson’s info, but the dealership appears to be in Georgia.
The mystery, to the extent that it even existed in the first place, deepens.

Where are the people who said building EVs would be a piece of cake for the ‘established’ mfrs?
Since this is TTAC, Ford’s delays could be anything from supply chain delays, labor issues, regulatory paperwork, or last-minute fixes. Everyone has these problems, but Ford specializes in launch issues. Tesla, too.
The same was with iPhone. In 2009-2010 we were working on new smartphones from “established” phone makers all of which were declared “iPhone killer”. That is from Motorola, Toshiba, Sony, Sharp, LG Prado and so on. Only Samsung survived and still could not kill iPhone.

Never heard about Sony phone. Motorola is Lenovo. You can say that Lenovo makes phones but they cannot compete with Samsung and iPhone.
Sony makes great phones. They don’t have a carrier deal so they aren’t huge in the US. Motorola is very well regarded in the “bang for your buck” segment. There are plenty of handset makers besides Apple and Samsung out there.
The android phone accounts for 73% of all smartphones purchased. Apple in comparison has a much smaller marketshare.

My younger kid’s bike got a hole in the front tube right by the valve, not patchable. I didn’t have any tubes in the right size and ordered another one, Prime. It took three weeks. For a damn 16″ bike tube. And they didn’t even warn me of the delay so I could go out and get one from a local bike shop instead.

@dal20402: It is the learning experience for you. Next time you will go directly to local shop. I said before and saying again – old global order is over. Shipping cheap stuff from far away is coming to the end. In the new world order everything will be produced locally like in dark ages. May be by robots but that does not matter. Matter of the fact is that gigantic ships and aircrafts are responsible to the major part of air pollution and global warming.

Yeah but it is available immediately. While from Amazon – good luck if it shipped from China. Then why US companies have to help China which is our enemy and not Mexico which is our friend and which stability more important for us. US has to come up with solution how to bring Mexico and central American countries into modern age. China does not need help anymore. They are going to claim Moon territories and land on Mars ahead of us for God’s sake.
@ILO Sir, MBAs will wake up and decide that perhaps transportation is not the place to take place in the race to the bottom. Guaranteed shipments with dedicated truck drivers to haul said goods. It’ll cost more and the customer will be charged. The alternative is hoping your Panamax container ship gets unloaded on time and an unknown trucking company hauls your stuff.
Seems to be becoming a habit at Ford. They “introduced” the Maverick hybrid, and now they won’t be building them until December… at the earliest.

And why the hold up? You take out one powertrain and drop in a couple vacuum cleaner motors. It’s not that hard.

This is a smart move by Ford. They have seen the data and know an electric pickup truck is not going to sell in any significant numbers.
Flash in the pan when all the virtue signaling libs buy them but then it will taper off. The range of this fake truck is way too low and the recharge times are way too long.
It’s laughably incompetent at being a truck yet all the moth breathers are acting like it’s the second coming.

Nothing is delayed. Ford has been saying since the beginning that orders would start in Fall 2021 and production would start in Spring 2022. There have been rumoured, possible dates. But there’s still a lot of Fall left to go.
One issue is when people get a company F150 a gas card comes with it. Drive to work sites. Drive home. Fill it up at any station. Leave out in the driveway overnight. No problem.
An electric one? Unless you want to dick around with off site charging — the employee either pays to charge it overnight or needs to calculate out the cost then expense it. Advantage gas card.
Same goes if you own your own business. Clean separation of accounts with gas. More complications with electric.

Much too early to tell but I suspect unless this is really gangbusters that Ford will play similar games that it has been with Mach-E, namely export available examples out of USDM (nearly 2:1 Mach-E exported vs sold in USDM) and hold back to a reasonable supply (30 days plus) while giving the false impression they are so hot we can’t stock them. They have the obviously engineered at this point [INSERT CRISIS HERE] to fall back on if probed why supply is short.
My sister had one in the late 70s. Never had any reliability issues but it did start rusting within 2 years. I was too young to get behind the wheel but I remember my dad finding any excuse to borrow it because it was so much fun to drive.
