Well, that didn’t take long. Mere minutes after our post this morning about the upcoming Cadillac Escalade V, the brand dropped official images of the thing – much earlier in the day than expected. But if you think TTAC had anything to do with that decision, we’ve some bridges in which you may be interested. After all, no one at RenCen reads TTAC, right? Right? (*nudge, nudge, wink, wink*)
As for the upcoming Escalade V, it promises to be a ground shaker.
We predict combining the latest ‘Slade’s bold style with a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine will be a license to print money. After all, it’s no secret that customers in the market for a near-700 horsepower SUV styled like a brutalist office building aren’t too concerned with monthly payments. In this class, it’s all about in-your-face appearances and an exhaust note that’ll rattle windows.
Actually, we’re assuming the engine from a CT5-V Blackwing lives under the hood of this beast since Cadillac is keeping its lips zipped about specs until closer to the SUV’s actual debut later this year. As mentioned in this morning’s post, expect the Vescalade to make slightly less horsepower than the 668 ponies on tap in the four-door sedan thanks to intake and exhaust routings. There’s also the matter of tweaking the power delivery to effectively move nearly four tons of SUV with a high center of gravity; some math on the back of this napkin suggests a final output of 650 horses and a similar amount of torque.
All of which will be more than enough to show off on the streets of Los Angeles or the dunes of Saudi Arabia, of course. There’s no word on any other changes to the Escalade formula, save for a ‘V’ badge on its steering wheel and a yaffle of blacked-out trim – the latter of which is already part and parcel of certain package grades. Peep those quad exhaust tips, square in shape and flanking a diffuser-like rear bumper treatment. Those are pretty big stoppers on each corner, as well. We will be floored if those Bridgestones are any less than 22 inches in diameter, and kit like Super Cruise is assured.
Cadillac promises more details before the calendar rolls into its summer months. For a brand whose stated intention is to enter the next decade as the purveyor of EVs, this is one hell of a swan song for internal combustion at Cadillac.

When all the talk is how manufacturers are looking to ruin the industry with EV garbage, it’s nice to see some sanity is left.
This will print money.
Gents; EB is correct AGAIN.
“Gents; EB is correct AGAIN.”
It’s a daily occurrence.
EBFlex the article has nothing to do with Ford.
Yup, there will be enough idiots who will buy this vehicle, not realising that retroactive regulation is a thing nowadays (for example, London banned all pre-Euro 6 diesels and all pre-Euro5 gasoline cars from Inner London, and the EU is looking to ban the sale and renting of houses that have an energy class below “C”, despite the fact those building meet the insulation regulations of the year they were built).
So I agree with you, this will print money, because there is an idiot born every minute. But let’s hope GM doesn’t get addicted to the easy income and uses that money to facilitate the company’s transition to EVs instead.
“Let’s hope GM uses that money to facilitate their transition to bankruptcy”
FIFY.
“the EU is looking to ban the sale or renting of houses that have an energy class below “C””
Oh now this is interesting, freezing title on *real estate* because… dictatorships can do as they please? This opens up a whole other can of worms.
“Oh now this is interesting, freezing title on *real estate* because… dictatorships can do as they please?”
Yes. They have “paused” the measure for now (literally a month before bringing it for voting in Brussels), but they plan to bring it back (aka get it voted in Brussels as a directive and then forcing states to “transpose” it in their national laws as usual).
But it’s the climate emergency! You don’t want the planet to die, don’t you? So, give us the power to retroactively regulate everything you own out of your ownership and we pinky promise to not abuse this power now and in the future.
Take this from a person who thinks climate change is very real: This is “climate emergency measures” deal is the real power grab, not the coronavirus measures that some people are complaining about. I’d rather live in a planet with a worse climate change effect than live in a dictatorship that can freeze the title of your home (and possibly freeze your home literally, because they are thinking of banning the sale of heating diesel and natural gas 10 years from now, so if you live in the EU I hope you can afford a brand-new heat pump if you don’t want tof freeze).
Oh, and the US is not as far as you think from this.
aka get it voted = aka wait for it to “settle” with the public and then get it voted
Same as it ever was, an expensive Suburban.
That’s a big piece of trash.
This thing is to a Ferrari what an electric Hummer is to a Tesla.
Excessively large and heavy, consumes way too much energy, but has a nice profit margin.
GM would sell motor homes with 2000 HP engines if they could make a hundred grand profit on each one.
Well, they HAVE to. They’ve forgotten how to mass produce reliable, reasonably priced cars and trucks, so they have to market high priced blobs of sheet metal like this. They also save a ton of money on styling, since they’re all the same ugly vehicle anyway.
Your move, Lincoln. (I kid)
No, you’re not kidding. Lincoln will add a third turbo to the Navigator’s 3.5 as a performance model.
Literally amazed they didn’t do this 20 years ago.
The V stuff didn’t come out until later IIRC. Other than “you pay more”, I saw V as a cop out for the garbage models. I really think the V program did much more harm then help for the marque.
That may be true, but Escalade was the hottest nameplate you could buy from anyone circa 2000-2010. As well as being the among the most profitable. A more powerful, more expensive version of that hot ticket seems like exactly the kind of thing pre-bankruptcy GM would have rushed to put on the market, even if it wasn’t fully baked or wasn’t called V.
If that is true, they would have introduced the V variant then for even more margin. They’re doing it now IMO because they are about to neuter Escalade and if you want a real one you will pay for V. They did the same with the CTS-V, that should have been the standard Sigma I/II sedan model with maybe the base being a V6 and minus some gingerbread but most of the rest available in mid trim. They made the real “Cadillac” a whole different model with a big up charge because they were happy to sell a volume pussified version at a more realistic price point. No different than Mercedes’ CLA.
@28
I have a 2007 CTS-V that I’ve owned and worked on for eight years. It’s the best-handling car I’ve ever owned, including my old 944. It’s a comfortable Q-Ship that can spin its rear tires into third gear if all beans are given. GM only sold 10,000 of the Gen I Vs over four years of production. There are less than 8000 left now due to attrition. Drag racing and drifting have claimed a few more – and more’s the pity because the front ends and rear LSDs on these cars cry out for road courses and twisties.
Being that there was virtually no advertising money spent on the V program I daresay that GM sold more CTSs in a month than they did CTS-Vs in a year and, as such, I can’t see the Gen I V hurting CTS sales. The woman who originally bought mine walked into a Florida Cadillac dealer ( Linus Cadillac ) to buy a CTS and was shown a pamphlet of what looked to be the same car but with worse fuel mileage; only a manual transmission; and only four options: Interior colour – exterior colour – suspension upgrade – and sunroof delete.
Being an ex-Alberta farm girl and a rich widower she bought the CTS-V instead of the base model.
Sounds like a nice ride. My overall point is by creating “V”, which are technically completely different models, Cadillac confirmed they were not interested in selling “Cadillacs”. They would sell you one as a “V” for quite a premium but really they were more interested in selling much lesser equipped “Cadillac” examples as de facto Oldsmobile Ninety Eights. My guess is this is what’s happening to the Escalade at some point, the current Escalade will become a “V” and the next one will be watered down in comparison. I read earlier the $125K or so Lexus LX is dropping its V8 for the same corporate V6 turbozzz drivetrain as the Tundra and presumably other Toyota trucks. Pretty sad for the price point, but watch non “V” Escalade be next.
The former owner sounds like my kind of gal.
Right so the Escalade is going to suck now and to get an Escalade, one must get the “V”?
Amazing how this marque isn’t a bankrupt memory.
And Greta Thunberg wept.
Aren’t our big corporations supposed to be woke now? This is really tone deaf with the focus on climate change and I think it is going to backfire.
The 1,000 or so they sell won’t be a deathstroke to Mother Gaia.
It’s still very bad optics.
Coming to the player parking lot of an NBA arena near you.
Great engine stuck in a hideous looking vehicle that handles about as well as a ox cart.
Bleeeaaaach.
This is the snout the Silverado or Sierra should have received. I don’t mind the looks of it.
@Lou:
Wait until one’s behind you. It looks like it’s about 100 feet tall in your rearview mirror…probably because I think it is around 100 feet tall.
I doff my cap to the interior designers, though.
I’ll take a nicely sized CTS-V wagon over this lumbering mastodon. Manual too.
I wonder how much the profit on one of these will cover? Maybe the loss on two or three EV’s?
I wonder if they will modify the stability control so this thing can go around a corner faster than “I’ve got my 94-year-old grandma in the back and wouldn’t want to jostle her” speed.
Probably doesn’t matter. The buyers just want it to be big, loud, and conspicuously expensive. Actual driving qualities don’t matter one bit.
“I wonder if they will modify the stability control…”
I’d say that I’d love to see a Youtube video of what would happen, but they already have one.
youtube.com/watch?v=w-HKSWf5xso
Wouldn’t take much to make this rig roll quicker than Michael Cohen. No way GM disables the stability control.
Escalade “V” Is that “V” like ‘v’ictor or ‘V’ as in Roman numeral ‘5’ ?
V for Vendetta.
Or Verbal;) thanks
Escalades are the only thing my local Cadillac dealer seems to have in stock.
Odd given the world.
“Escalades are the only thing my local Cadillac dealer seems to have in stock.”
The margins would say that makes sense.
Is the circus in town?
That’s a cool car if:
* You wear silk track suits all day.
* The female in the house is blonde, has red fingernails with silver ring finger ones, and big fake boobs that would get her a job in a circus if the discount surgeon scars weren’t so bad.
* You always talk about the stuff you buy and how much you paid for it.
* Your kids have the best sporting goods that money can buy — yet stink at every sport they sign up for.
* You know an employee of yours deserves a bonus for a job well done but — nah.
* When a piece of mail for a neighbor shows up in your mailbox you open it.
* When you get a colonoscopy the surgeon stops by while you’re coming out of anesthesia to inform you that your tastebuds have somehow migrated to your backside.
* You go the church without ever putting anything in the collection basket.
Seriously, I love big, powerful cars like the Durango Hellcat — but that thing is just one big, disgusting, tasteless, Danii Banks (Google at your own risk) pig of a car.
It’ll sell like hotcakes in China and Texas.
@MitchConner,
When put through google translate, your text comes back as “I’m jealous” (much quicker to type).
LOL
@ ToolGuy … LOL ……Excellent !!
@ ToolGuy
Funny, I had you in mind when writing this — especially the tastebuds part.
Glad it got under your skin.
BTW, you have the best username ever — as you’re quite the tool.

Come on Mitch …He gotcha ! Take it with a smile
Add to the list:
*You post controversial political nonsense early on every thread in order to derail the topic at hand, spread misinformation and foment divisiveness.
WMitch:
OK, I googled Danii Banks. That was a mistake. But the comparison is spot on.
(Golf clap)
@FreedMike
Thanks. ToolGuy has a gigantic poster of Danii, BTW.
I think Cadillac should mine the mailing lists of every plastic surgeon who specializes in collagen lip and butt treatments, and bombard those people with Escalade marketing.
Opposite direction of what needs to be done. Bring back the d’Elegance and Biarritz. This vehicle is honestly stupid and tone deaf.
Say “tone deaf” and “optics” some more, woke dipstick.
“Four tons”? 8 thousand pounds???
Curb weight no; gross vehicle weight yes (with rounding, or if you are willing to note Matthew’s actual quote of “*nearly* four tons”)
“And Greta Thunberg wept.” is FOX news on 24/7 at your house?
Fox News is the American version of the piped-in propaganda that every home in North Korea is forced to listen to. The only difference is that here the victims of the propaganda take it in voluntarily.
Fifty percent of the voters in this country are of below average intelligence. That’s a hell of a lot of stupid, gullible voters.
Nice..but the same beef I have with the Tahoe/Yukon ..Too big for the Burbs .Then there’s price of gas up here in Canuckistan.!! Speaking of price even if I settle for a miled out GM staff car, the price tag to take one home is staggering ..
“Nice..but the same beef I have with the Tahoe/Yukon ..Too big for the Burbs .”
What? I know the new ones had the wheelbase stretched but I would hardly call my ’07 ‘Hoe “Big”. It fits easily in even the smallest of garages. Ask me how I know.
My ’04 crew cab Sierra HD PU, now that was big! Hence we referred to it as the “Big Black”. Get out of that and the ‘Hoe feels like a little sports car in comparison.
Carlson Fan ….I hear ya !!…I should revise that to “too big for an aging boomer to drive around ” I drove full size trucks for years !! These days I find my Impala a bit ungainly : )
I’m coming up on 57, so no spring chicken myself. But now that my DD is a Volt the Tahoe does feel bigger then when I had the Sierra. It does have pretty decent turning radius for a FS 1/2 ton truck which maybe makes it feel smaller than it is. It’s all what you get used/acclimated to driving I guess.
Just what we need, bigger, faster ego-mobiles.
“Just what we need, bigger, faster ego-mobiles.”
Still no where near as bad as a MB G-Wagon. Now there is the ultimate SUV douche-bag mobile!……LOL
The LAST GASP of Cadillac wasting peoples money and gas…THANK GOD!!! GM has done enough damage to this planet… building garbage over the decades!
Wow, this thing should be called the trigger mobile. I can’t afford one and that’s too bad. Comfy, room for 6 or more adults and power for days. It will generate much needed profit so it lowers the likelihood of my tax dollars being given in another bailout to bad management and corrupt union bosses. I hope it is a great success.
Not a real off-roader like most suv’s on this price range. This thing is way overpriced. Old engine technology, the interior still not high quality compare to cars at this price range. Just because it has big screens doesn’t mean its a luxury car. Lots of plastics.
