Shivon Zilis, a top executive at Neuralink, gave birth to twins last year. The father was Neuralink — and Tesla — boss Elon Musk.
This happened in November, just weeks before Musk and singer Claire Boucher, who performs under the name Grimes, announced the birth of their second child.
Zilis has previously worked for Tesla as a project director, working on Autopilot and chip designs.
With the twins, Musk now has nine children. He tweeted this week about wanting humans to have more children.
Doing my best to help the underpopulation crisis.
A collapsing birth rate is the biggest danger civilization faces by far.
— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) July 7, 2022
Insider found court documents that showed Musk is the father.
“In April, Musk, 51, and Zilis, 36, filed a petition to change the twins’ names in order to ‘have their father’s last name and contain their mother’s last name as part of their middle name.’ The order was approved by a judge in Austin, Texas, this May. (Insider is withholding the children’s names to protect their privacy.) The twins were born weeks before Musk and Claire Boucher, the musician who performs as Grimes, had their second child via surrogate in December,” Insider reported.
This isn’t the first time a Musk child that was unknown to the public was revealed by someone other than Musk: The sound of a crying baby during a Grimes interview with Vanity Fair showed that the couple had had a second child.

Welcome to The Truth about Musk.
What does this have to do with cars? Will we be getting updates on Marry Barra’s love life?
I suspect that this is Important Journalism (in someone’s mind) because of the reporting relationship(s) and Business Ethics (which used to be a thing). I further suspect we will hear from someone about just how important and relevant it is — but I shall stop speculating and wait to hear.
Business ethics or ethics in politics is a rare and endangered animal. Functionally extinct in my opinion.
I wonder if any of his 9 children are legally entitled to his wealth?
Not to get political, but wasn’t Elon Reeve Musk (FRS) educated in the Dominion of Canada?
@ToolGuy – Born in South Africa and moved to Canada when he was 17. He then went to college in Canada but then transferred to a US college. His mother was born in Canada.
Like if the batteries die?
“What does this have to do with cars? Will we be getting updates on Marry Barra’s love life?”
I’d like to know more about Xiden selling some of our strategic oil reserves to China but I guess this really is more important.
I’m not sure why you’re having trouble with that. X and B aren’t even close to each other on your typewriter.
If he wanted to know more about the oil reserves, he should just learn how to find it. Oh and in case he doesn’t know, the President’s name is spelled Biden. But then he’s probably still in middle school, so what would he know?
“I’m not sure why you’re having trouble with that. X and B aren’t even close to each other on your typewriter.”
Xiden Xiden Xiden.

Xiden Xiden Xiden
alpha male!
What brilliance will Musk progeny bring to humanity’s future?
“In other news today- a very rich man has babies with multiple women, and scientists confirm that water is wet. More at 11. Now to our Asian correspondent, Trisha Takanowa.”
This will make Neuralink executive meetings a bit awkward.
I’d don’t think the Neuralink connection is at the crotch level. But hey, I’m not a bilionaire genius.
Sorry but this is a useless article. Belongs in the NY Post.
Agreed.
And, Elon, there is no underpopulation crisis, ya moron. Have you ever been to India, Mexico, Singapore, Bahrain, Malta, Sint Maartin, or even Southern California?
He might be referring to the birth rate in developed Western countries. And he may have a point.
So his Tesla plug isn’t proprietary and can be used elsewhere.
Musk never pulls out until charging is complete.
Ha……!!
COTD
I guess this is one case where rapid charging is a negative….
You didn’t read the other news today? Tesla is opening supercharging pumps to everyone…
Just one more piece of evidence, as if the saga of “Full Self-Driving” wasn’t enough, that Elon has questionable ethics. (To be clear, the ethically questionable thing isn’t the affair itself – consenting adults can do what they want – but having the affair while in a position of power.)
Musk? His last marriage ended in 2016. Now, is Zillis? IDK.
Musk is Zilis’s boss. That’s the problem.
I was simply addressing your use of “having an affair”.
Having an extramarital affair with a subordinate= HUGE problem.
Having sex with a subordinate= big problem.
To me, while both in the “not cool” realm, one drastically outweighs the other.
I think the ethics of extramarital affairs are a private question and I’m not going to judge from afar, but we agree on the ethics of boinking your subordinates.
“Boinking subordinates”…I can see his lawyer arguing that it was a neuralink experiment with unexpected side effects.
I would add:
Having an extramarital affair with a subordinate that results in a pregnancy and birth of a child is a HUGE, HUGE, HUGE problem.
That said when you are worth 225 Billion and one of the most influential people in the world, you can buy your way out of almost anything.
The kids could be the result of artificial insemination.
Musk doesn’t have sex, he has s3x. Ford wouldn’t let him use the “e”…
Also, Musk can’t be having an extramarital affair, given that he’s not married.
Not to open a can of worms, but I see the affair as questionable because it’s not completely fair to the mothers or the children.
Even in a stable, two-parent, multi-child household, it can be difficult to give enough attention to each child. Give the second parent a job, and it gets harder. Make one of the parents a CEO, and it gets harder still. Now take the number of children up to 9 – harder still. And now split the family into multiple states and maybe even multiple countries … it’s starting to look impossible.
All this sets up a competition for fatherly love, and fatherly resources. It’s not optimal. And while the mothers may have accepted this possibility, the children certainly didn’t consent to it.
Hence why I still question the ethics.
Now, as to whether this is automotive news, that seems a bit more far-fetched.
“Not to open a can of worms”
That can of worms should have be wrapped in latex, polyurethane or polyisoprene.
Now that we have elevated the discussion from People Magazine level to Psychology Today, here is Elon’s dad’s take on the whole thing:
https://www.the-sun.com/news/5711836/elon-musk-twins-father-illegitimate-children/
Musk is extremely wealthy. Women climb over each other to get their manicured nails into a rich man. Having a baby with an extremely rich man means being set for life, but with a child to strap in to the carseat/carrier while shopping for shoes and drinking lattes at Starbucks.
Musk without money = creep.
Musk with money = very attractive.
@RHD – unfortunately true.
The dude’s not married, so can we let go of the affair angle fellas? Now, the ethical part of the Zillis story, sure let that one simmer.
I’m no Elon Musk fan (far from it), but this sort of Celebrity Tabloid stuff doesn’t really have anything to do with cars… I can’t imagine a TTAC article on the family life of any other automaker CEO.
Slow news day. We’ve had a micro e-Honda that nobody really cares about or wants (yet), a Lexus SUV that the Japanese are having a hard time getting, and an Audi that has optional stuff as standard, while having things painted slightly different colors.
They can’t all be “edge of the chair” type days.
That said, I agree with your sentiment.
“doesn’t really have anything to do with cars”
Unless the event occured in one of his cars. Even then….
Possibly in one of his Tesla’s that broke down on the road and waiting for roadside assistance. Have to pass the time because it is a long long wait.
I never understood Boucher…not attractive and a real whack job.
Musk’s chicks up to that point were hot.
And Zilis is obviously pretty intelligent.
Apparently TikTok is now full of girls making vids asking Musk to breed with them.
Congrats to Elon of course but what twins have to do with TTAC? You guys are going way off topic recently.
TTAC The Truth About Contraception
hmm – seems there was more than just a neural link.
Nothing says “we need to be green and save the planet” like bringing a bunch of kids into the world.
Agree or disagree, but he has thought this through:
“I think one of the biggest risks to civilization is the low birth rate and the rapidly declining birthrate,” Musk said at the Wall Street Journal’s annual CEO Council.
“And yet, so many people, including smart people, think that there are too many people in the world and think that the population is growing out of control. It’s completely the opposite. Please look at the numbers – if people don’t have more children, civilization is going to crumble, mark my words.”
https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/business/2021/12/07/elon-musk-declining-birthrate-threatens-human-civilization/6414749001/
keep that birth rate up so wages can stay low. gotta make sure theres enough unemployed that they cant grip about minimum wage
Yeah, he’s pretty much on record saying that the lack of breeding among intelligent people is a problem. My wife and I are both quite intelligent (not Musk smart, but up there) and we’ve both made the most of it. We also decided not to have children. Increasingly I think that might have been a selfish decision, but too late to do anything about it now. Highest birthrates in the world are generally from the poorest/dumbest people.
Lie to yourself all you want, but their are no great scientists living in third world slums just waiting for a chance. The really smart ones already found a way out.
Next going green by wearing a chastity belt a proven time tested method of birth control and reusable.
The good news: Elon Musk has an endless child support fund.
As far as “this isn’t a valid news story” is concerned, I’ll play devil’s advocate on that. Musk is the head of what is arguably the most prominent automaker on the planet. It’s impossible to separate this guy from Tesla, so Musk’s life and Tesla become intertwined by definition. Put differently: if Lee Iacocca had been a serial womanizer, would that have reflected back on Chrysler? I’d say it would have.
What about Carlos Ghosn’s prison break, Henry Ford II’ philandering, John DeLorean’s “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous” image, or even Henry Ford’s vicious Jew hating? None of that stuff had much to do with the car business per se, but those were all celebrity CEOs, as Musk is, and that makes their actions fair game.
Personally, I think he’s bought into the idea that he’s Tony Stark,
Did Elon fathered the twins while riding with the woman in a Tesla driven in auto pilot mode?
THAT would be car news.
Goodbye, love motels.
It’s only a matter of time before some “self-driving” car crashes while its’ occupants are doing it
He did re-tweet that couple at the wheel of a Tesla on autopilot a few years back doing just that.
Doing it in a self-driving car might qualify for the Darwin Award.
Just watching the evening news at 6:30pm. Musk is backing out of his Twitter deal. In case you wanted to know.
That Tweater deal is gonna be a “jobs program” for high priced biz attorneys on both sides LOL.
I heard his next venture is perfume. Elon’s Musk.
Tesla could offer that as a option to spray Elon’s Musk from the air vents. Makes a lot of scents.
Most of us on this site come to read about cars, trucks, suvs, and crossovers. I could care less if Musk has twins, triplets, or quadruplets. I might be alone in my opinions but I think Musk is a pompous and arrogant jerk who is not worthy of any more attention. Teslas are overpriced and poorly made vehicles that are almost impossible to get parts and service for. I am not opposed to EVs but I can wait till there are more choice in the marketplace with better lower cost batteries and an infrastructure to support it. I will give credit to Tesla for making EVs and for EVs gaining popularity but Musk himself is someone not to be held in high esteem and does not merit any additional attention. Do want to give kudos to Corey for his excellent car series on the Imperial and the Marks and want to encourage more car related articles that keep many of us coming back to TTAC. I have learned a lot from his series and look forward to the next.
Can’t you guys just reprint HighDesertCat long winded worthless stories? At least they centered around his cars and one amazing Tundra. Is it a copyright issue?
Haven’t heard from HighDesertCat in a long time. I would go for a story about his Tundra. Even though this is a car site there are those of us that would be interested in a motorcycle review, a classic motorcycle article (i.e. Honda 750, Norton, Triumph, Motoguzzi, Ducati, BMW and classic Indian, and how about a junkyard crawl thru a motorcycle salvage yard)
He was banned for unfortunate racist comments, totally unapologetic and self righteous.
Or went on to the great Rump Rally in the sky.
Oh how nice. The world will now have more entitled children of over-priviledged narcissists.
I was kind of concerned when Trump stopped having kids, but now it looks like everything’s in order. Good to know, good to know.
