Kudos to John Margherita for nailing the BMW 1800, and pdq. Today, we have a two-fer, for a special CC occasion. Tomorrow’s CC is in the front, but the car behind it was a previous CC. You get triple bonus points if you remember the general theme of that CC. And quadruple points if you know why that CC has historical significance (at TTAC). Rack those memory banks!

I’m going to try to stay ahead of the curve and keep CC Clue coming a bit more consistently. Too often, I don’t decide what I’m going to do for the next day’s CC until after dinner, or even in the morning. Well, it’s almost dinner time now, but at least I’ve decided. And some good wine won’t hurt either, although it sometimes does lead to a more…uhm…subjective (exaggerated?) style of writing, like this one. Well, today’s mystery car is historically significant (oops; well they all are!), so I’d better keep my wits about me. Kudos to big_gms for being the only one to identify the 1976 Honda Accord. That was a bit tricky. This one might be too.
This 1965 Falcon Futura first caught my eye, not the Prius. But seeing them jowl-to-cheek gave me a dramatic lesson in how far car aerodynamics have come. Well, at least in common everyday cars. The Tatra T77 of 1934 still has this Prius’ Cd of .25 handily beat. The Falcon? Who knows; probably around .50 or so. But this semi-fastback roof on the Falcon was the hot new thing when it came out on the 1963.5 Fords, specifically to help the big Galaxie on the high speed NASCAR tracks. Read More >
I apologize about the irregularity of the CC Clue. I’ve been cranking up the production of CCs substantially, hopefully without the same loss of quality and consequences as Toyota. So sometimes I’m up late writing, and it’s too late for the Clue, or I’m too tired. But today I set a personal best: wrote this morning’s Malibu CC and tomorrow’s mystery CC all by 4 PM! Time for quick Clue and head for a hunting walk beofre it gets dark. Enough about that; the Rabbit’s radio hole was going to be recognized by a former loving owner, and that would be Chuck Goolsbee. I promised him a prize of an un-rusty Toyota Tercel tailgate. I guess I better take some tools along, but I know I won’t have to walk far; there’s several a few blocks away.

Well, its been raining a lot, so its time to move inside. Anyway, you guys keep nailing the outdoor clues so maybe this will slow you down a bit. Probably not. You certainly didn’t waste any time fixing the make and model of the Chevy pickup, and Jimal led the parade. Congratulations and good luck.

I knew that if anyone owned, or had ever owned a 356, they’d instantly recognize its distinctive rear grille. Autopassion was the first owner up, and he also summed up the Porsche better in one short sentence than my 800 words: My beloved Porsche
356, an epiphany to all those who think they need 500 horsepower to be a man and have fun. Well said, indeed, sir; and you’re a lucky man. Enjoy.

We’re going to stay with the finny-grilly theme a bit longer. The not-really-all-that-ugly Datsun F-10 was I.D.’d by DweezilSFV, who if memory serves me right, was a prior winner. Congrats! Let’s see what you all make of this little number.

In my (probably failing) memory, yesterday was the first CC Clue that went un-identified. It was hard, being so dark and all, because you’re anything but clueless. So I’ll throw in a Friday bonus CCC, which we normally don’t do. But it’s a make-up session, so it’s still dark and finny. But not nearly so hard. Here’s your chance to pull up your grade!
I didn’t give you much to go on with the Dodge Daytona except the Reliant behind it. But fincar1 gave it a shot, and it was the right one. In honor of his name, I give you fins, or whatever you want to call these. Have fun!

A while back, I decided to drop dropping hints. That still applies to the verbal kind. But here’s a visual aid: the car we’re identifying is in the foreground, but most conveniently, a visual hint drove past just as I squeezed the shutter. I hope the vacation from CCClueing didn’t take the edge off your skills. I doubt it.

Ok, the twin-stick of the Champ/Colt was a dead giveaway. Bergwerk jumped on it first, probably more because he saw it come up first than anything to do with his dead-reckoning skills. But I’m dead certain it won’t be quite so quick today. Come on Bergwerk, let’s see if you can go knock a double with your deadly skills.

Ok, this may be way too easy and obvious. But in keeping with CC Dead Brands Week, I couldn’t resist. So if you know it, just say it gently; no CAPS or Bold necessary (just kiddin’). Last week’s steamy Bobcat was one of the tougher stumpers; but Hank, one of our repeat winners, came through again with the win.
