A recent return to Ohio let me reunite with my mentor, a man recently known for his acquisition of an Accord Coupe, to test Honda’s curatorial abilities. How many company rarities and wall placards filled with corporate agitprop can one get for eight figures these days? Hit the jump to find out.
Compared with the prior year, the Ford Motor Company lost one full percentage point of market share in the United States in 2014. While preparing to replace their F-150, Ford/Lincoln market share fell from 15.9% to 14.9% as F-Series sales predictably stalled in an expanding market and as Ford brand car sales slid 4%.
Poised to pickup Ford’s share was Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. The company’s Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Jeep, Maserati, and Ram brands boosted FCA’s U.S. market share from 11.6% in 2013 to 12.7% in 2014. Maserati, Jeep, and Ram were America’s fastest-growing auto brands. Read More >
TTAC was the first to report on a new 200-mile EV being developed by GM, based on the Chevrolet Sonic. This low volume model, said to be a compliance car, is getting closer to reality, with the Wall Street Journal reporting that a concept version will debut at Monday’s Detroit Auto Show – though according to the WSJ, plans have changed.
I have been toying with the idea of sending users who fail to read the article (and leave a snarky comment) with a one week, all expenses paid vacation away from the site. I am open to criticism, corrections, feedback and the like. I can’t stand pedantry, like the example shown above. Excluding ultra-low-volume brands such as Maserati, Jeep was America’s fastest-growing auto brand in 2014. Both in terms of percentage growth and units added, no auto brand came within striking difference of the Chrysler Group/FCA SUV brand. Jeep sales jumped 41% to record-high levels of nearly 700,000 units, an improvement of more than 200,000 U.S. sales.
• U.S. Jeep volume climbs by more than 200K
• Five “Detroit brands” in top 10
• Jeep, Subaru, Audi, Nissan set annual U.S. sales records
Even without the additional sales of the Cherokee, Jeep was flying high in 2014. Non-Cherokee/Liberty volume was up 12% to 513,840 sales, which would have been the highest total for the Jeep brand since 1999.
Incidentally, the second-fastest-growing brand in America was another make from the same manufacturer, another brand which doesn’t sell passenger cars: Ram. Read More >
