The Chrysler brand DOUBLED in sales and outsold Buick and Cadillac COMBINED! Go Sergio!
Not only did Chrysler outsell Cadillac and Buick combined, they did it with only three models: the 200, the 300, and the Town and Country. Cadillac’s in line for a shot in the arm with the ATS, but Buick recently had updates to its main car models, the Regal and The Lacrosse, and it recently added the Verano. Buick has no excuses.
Also, as well as Chrysler brand did, the Dodge brand still sold more.
I am amazed the Focus sold >23,000 units and more than doubled. Also surprised the Jetta “only” sold around 11,000 units – best for a February but I recall it selling in the 15-16,000 range last year.
I recall some authors and some of the B&B on here saying pent-up demand was a phantom. How do you explain these February figures? Interesting to see if it continues into March.
Word is that much of that Feb. growth for the Focus is to fleet and the $2k that Ford put on the hood certainly didn’t hurt.
I wonder how much the Chrysler 200 is part of the 114%. I see a bunch of them, were as I never saw many of the Sebrings.
200 sold 9,717 +315%.
T@C sold 9,621 +22%.
300 sold 7,670 +480%.
Thanks. It is visually (to me at least) hard to believe the 200 was the Sebring. I guess it is possible to put lipstick on a pig.
The awkward relationship between the greenhouse and lower body (especially around the C pillar) gives away the 200’s origins. Still, Fiasler has done a commendable job with reimaging the Sebring, given what it had to start with!
Chrysler’s recent sales successes are shockingly good…
I think there was some court order that you could only drive a Sebring without lights, on a moonless night, in the fog, with a fully opaque covering. And if someone happened to see the car, you had to send that person a written apology.
Something doesn’t seem right about 480% and 315% increases for the Chrysler 300 and 200 respectively. Major fleet sales push? Incentives?
How about the American public actually likes the redesigns and realizes they are stylish, high quality products that are great values?
“Major fleet sales push?”
That would be my guess. That’s definitely the case with GM in February.
I would presume that if one was to crunch the numbers, it would show that Hyundai has reduced its fleet sales, and that the domestics are stepping in to fill the resulting gap. This may be an indication that fleets are expanding in anticipation of stronger economic growth, which when combined with Hyundai focusing heavily on retail, results in heavy demand for rental cars and one less company to provide the majority of the supply.
Part of the reason the increases are astronomical is because last year’s numbers were bad. And that 315% doesn’t include Sebring in the 2011 count.
300:
— Feb 2010: 4487
— Feb 2011: 1323
— Feb 2012: 7670 (up 70% over 2010, up 480% over 2011)
200/Sebring:
— Feb 2010: 3160
— Feb 2011: 3000
— Feb 2012: 9717 (up 208% over 2010, up 224% over 2011)
