After breaking its one-year-old sales record with a sharp increase to more than 61,000 sales in 2002, Jaguar’s U.S. sales decline began with a vengeance. Jaguar USA volume plunged 80 percent between 2002 and 2009 and has not since recovered. Under Ford Motor Company’s tutelage, Jaguar sold more cars in the United States in 2002 than in the last four years combined.
Yet seemingly overnight, May 2016 played host to a completely revolutionized Jaguar lineup. Year-over-year, U.S. sales at the Jaguar brand shot up 80 percent in May 2016. When Jaguar’s latest-and-greatest sedan arrives on American shores next spring, it will do so with an extra option on the order sheet — a manual transmission.
According to Car & Driver, the Jaguar XE will get a third pedal and a stick in the middle of the center console that does things. Apparently, there are still enough people out there that know what to do with that thing in the center console that Jaguar believes it will make up between 10 and 20 percent of overall sales.
“It is enough to be worth the investment, and we are happy with our decision,” North American CEO Joe Eberhardt told C&D.
Jaguar will launch its new XE sedan with a diesel engine in the United States, when it goes on sale in 2016 as a 2017 model.
Before we get into the details of Jaguar’s new lineup of modular 4-cylinder engines, let us rejoice. There will be a manual transmission available.
Despite all the hype around the Jaguar XE and its new lineup of ultra-efficient 4-cylinder engines, Jaguar has chosen to reveal their new 3-Series fighter with only the most sporting trim level.
Although the upcoming Jaguar XE was previously announced with just a 4-cylinder turbocharged engine, it was hard to believe that Jaguar wasn’t going to put something spicier under the hood of their first proper 3-Series competitor.
Jaguar released this teaser of their new 3-Series competitor, the XE. All we know is that it has an all-new 2.0L 4-cylinder with a turbocharger and is based on an scalable aluminum architecture. Expect a full debut at September’s Paris Auto Show.
