imperial_60_1_1280.jpgGod knows I've been fired from enough jobs to know the relief and exaltation that accompanies summary dismissal. Of course, my current status as a middle-aged, twice-married father of four has put a bit of edge into that concept. But I can certainly recommend getting fired to any young man and woman who isn't staring at the business end of $1.2m worth of private school tuition. As for quitting, well, that's even better. Cocaine has nothing on the high you get from knowing you never have to set foot in that m-effing workplace again as long as you live. That said, I know there must be readers who love their jobs; sensitive souls who would be devastated if they got the old  heave-ho or "had" to leave. Get over it. It's one of those Shiva deals: creation depends on destruction. If you get too comfortable in a job you're not creating personal growth, Dude. I offer these words of wisdom to Mr. LaSorda, who should unfurl that 24K parachute and jump. From what I know about The Big 2.8, from what I can see heading their way, now's a great time to tell Nardelli to take his North American Sales, International Sales, Global Marketing, Product Strategy and Service and Parts and shove it. The only Chrysler you need Tommy boy is a vintage machine sitting in your humidity-controlled garage.

I just wanted to throw this out there as I really have a hard time believing that Mr. Press has decided to just up and leave Toyota for what could be an upside so large his children’s children couldn’t piss away the fortunes…

    The theory:
Mr. Press is making the move to lay the groundwork for what may become an outright buyout of Chrysler by Toyota to leverage additional manufacturing capacity & pursue that % of market share unpenetrable by Toyota due to the hard-core faithful that will not abandon American product. Examples would include:
    –> Tundra’s re-skinned as Dodge Ram’s
    –> Tacoma’s as Dakota’s
    –> The Jeep brand

I know what I am purporting is blasphemous to some, but Mr. Press is a dyed in the wool Toyota man and there just has to be more to this then money for Press. He is too entrenched in Japanese culture and thinking to pursue this for financial gain.

    Just my thoughts…

Or, maybe, he’s tired of going “ooh, ah! goodness my head is getting sore from bumping up against that occidentally-polarised glass ceiling all the time…”

I would think that Toyota buying Chrysler would run into stiff opposition on anti-trust grounds. If that is the plan, the had better do it while a Republican controls the FTC.

Personally, I think Toyota are smarter than the average bear (or bull) and wouldn’t own Chrysler if you gave them money….

Oh wait, Cerebrus had to be paid to take it….

Guess that’s pretty embarrassing to me as an occidental huh?

Plus, there’s what I euphamistically call “the Jeep CURSE”.

Willys Overland – deceased, bought out by Kaiser.

Kaiser-Jeep – le morte, bought out by American Motors.

American Motors – deceased, bought out by Chrysler.

Chrysler – kaput, bought out by Daimler Benz.

    Now Cerebrus own it.

I’d sell any Cerebrus stock now, if I were you, folks…

    Well said!

I think I must be an addict. Quitting is a great feeling but, unfortunately, you eventually come down and have to get another job to be able to get that feeling again.

I find it very hard to believe that Toyota would consider any association with Chrysler unless the UAW is buried not 6 but 12 feet deep.

Jeep might be attractive, but see above, and the model worth saving is a very small niche.

My way always has been “I was looking for a job when I found this one” even though I never really hated one that much. If the money wasn’t enough to disappear the hard feelings I walked every time. FTW.

First thing a lot of people do when they win the lotto is to buy something. First thing I’m going to do is get rid of something. My job!

I’m eligible for early retirement at 50. I’m taking it.

“I would think that Toyota buying Chrysler would run into stiff opposition on anti-trust grounds.”

More importantly, Toyota will not buy any company with a UAW contract.

Hmmm last time I checked GM Ford and Chrysler have never been run by a woman, an African American or an Asian at the top and yet its Toyota that has a glass ceiling?
