Women do their make-up, men pick their noses and scratch themselves, and life goes on. However, hair is one area where women out-do men for dangerous distractions. Yep, The Vancouver Province c/o Canada.com reports any haircut, including Kate Moss' famous bang-fest (get your mind out of the gutter) may reduce peripheral vision and interfere with driving. Citing a UK study, the Province lays down some scary numbers: 190k women in the UK have copped to a near-miss due entirely to hairstyle malfunctions. Additionally, 67 percent of survey respondents currently wear a hairstyle that may let hair fall over their eyes. But here's the kicker: "57 per cent of women confess to taking their hands off the wheel to rearrange their hair or push it off their face, leaving them temporarily out of control of their car." I don't know about you, but next time I see that blonde in a Lexus RX primping at 85 mph, I'm getting the fuck out of her way (and hopefully not crashing into Mr. Bigshot, busily blackberrying away while delegating the task of handling the road entirely to his BMW 5-series).

Oh come off it! Is there valid research indicating that bald men have fewer accidents? No, because they’re playing with their facial hair. I often take one hand off the wheel to scratch and fiddle, and my last at-fault accident was during the first Bush administration. It’s tempting to take a cheap shot at fashion-obsessed women, but that’s all this is.
Fashion is also dictating sunglasses with ridiculously wide arms – turning sun-protection into something similar to blinders. Add that to bangs and IFR flying, anyone?
I was just behind a woman yesterday who kept driving off the road while staring into the vanity mirror doing something with her hair. I couldn’t figure out what would be so important to endanger her life since it looked like birds nest on her head.
People like that scare the sh*t out of me while I’m on my motorcycle.
Long hair was the style for guys when I was a young driver. I do recall my hair getting in the way of my vision if it wasn’t pushed behind my ears.
Of course it’s much shorter now, but at least still all there – if not quite the same color it was in 1976.

Given Ms. Moss’ attraction to drugs, her hair style should be the least of her driving worries.

Can we post that on every Interstate Highway sign? I couldn’t begin to count the number of times I’ve almost been sideswiped, rear-ended, t-boned, or reversed into by women in big, expensive SUV’s paying more attention to their looks than the road (this is TX, BTW. If studies were done, I’d put money on TX having one of the highest amounts of SUV’s on the road, and it is scary!!).
I am a guy with longer hair. I don’t FIX it while I’m driving. I know plenty of sensible women who would never think about touching their face or hair while moving in a vehicle. Unfortunately, I also know 5 women that DO, for every one who doesn’t.
Back to the quote above (besides the unrealistic number of 40K+ SUV’s on the road primarily driven by women), my top-rated excuse for almost being squashed by a Crew Cab Heavy Duty pickup at-fault, was that the individual had “Good insurance,” so hitting me wasn’t a big deal.
This is the country we live in – people think that having money is good enough. Buy the expensive truck/SUV (that will never be used), get full-coverage insurance, and it doesn’t matter how many wrecks someone gets in.
yeah ok, when i’m out with my crazy female hair (pinned back), i see a lot of guys too busy picking their noses and ogling people in surrounding cars to care about what’s going in front of them.

Now that’s a good point. I’ve had some close calls ogling the fairer sex while driving.
