002scion_hako_coupe_concept1.jpgThe nice thing about security guards at auto shows is that they know very little about security and can't guard shit. As Justin and I were looking for the aforementioned free lunch (which indeed there is no such thing as), we headed into a conference room. "Are you with Toyota?" the guard demanded (in the sense of idly inquired). A simple "yes" and there it was: the new Scion Haku concept. The California sunset (TM) orange car looked like a chopped xB, with bells on. Unfortunately, I didn't have my camera with me. So… then I met Matt Hardigree of Jalopnik, who'd been given a magenta-colored press pass (PR) by mistake. I sent Matt back into the room to grab some shots of the top secret Scion, with the understanding that we'd post them simultaneously. Done. TTAC. Making friends wherever we go.

You guys are truly kick ass. You subsequently make those deuschebags at C&D, Motor Trend, etc. look that much worse.

I wrote a haiku in honor of this Haku occasion.

    I’m driving a box
The rear looks like it’s mad at you
    Don’t think I’m a girl

It’s just a concept car. Autoblog has a better picture of it (when it was officially unveiled later, I think). It basically looks like a two door first gen xB. As for the single light, it’s probably a white back up light. The second gen xB has a single back up light in the same place. Yeah, weird.

I has decent rounded curves until they apparently fired the kindergartener designing it and hired another one who only wanted a sharp, square lines. Seriously, WTF? Did they decide to compromise and round out the body and square of the roof?

    Aha, so they do.

And I didn’t think it would get much worse than the rear pic. That is one FUGLY car.

But, it would be nice to bring back the original (read: SMALL) xB in some fashion. I like the new xB, because us poor people deserve a nice wagon, too, but the whole Small-Car feel is great – I love my xA, especially around town.

Maybe instead of adding 300-400lbs (xD COUGH), Scion will go back to a lightweght subcompact. HOW they managed to get the xD to weigh so much is beyond me, but it’s definately no subcompact as far as weight/feel goes.
