Yup. the 5.0-liter V8 in conjunction with the electric motor is supposed to provide the equivalent power to a big, German V12.
Don’t believe me? The Lexus makes 438 hp. The BMW 760iL (6.0-liter V12) makes 438 hp.
They could’ve just used turbos and made 450 hp like te Nissan GT-R

I think you are being a bit harsh on M-B and BMW here.
For example, seeing as BMW have the same 3.0L R6 in (around the world) the 328i, 330i, 335i it is a more elegant solution to do that than call it the 330detuned, 330i, 330tti etc…
Having said that the new xDrive35d stuff is ridiculous – i thought the X in X5 already meant it was 4WD!?!?
M-B also said they were switching to the power-equivalence method of model names. That’s why you have the C200/C220/C250 CDI. BMW of course do the same with their 2.0L diesel – 118d, 120d, 123d.
BMW have always done this. Remember the turbocharged E23 745i built from 80-86? It had a 3.2l (3.4l from 83) in-line 6 boosted by a KKK K27 turbocharger to 252 hp (in Europe). The 745 designation was chosen because the engine “performed like a 4.5l NA engine”.
Other examples: E28 325e had 2.7l, E36 323i had 2.5l etc. etc. etc.
