Automotive News [sub] reports that Pininfarina is building a one-off based on Rolls-Royce's unobtainable Phantom Drophead Coupe. The Pininfarina Hyperion is a stylish convertible boulevardier built for a mysteriously unnamed private collector. The Hyperion will debut at the Pebble Beach Concourse d'Elegance this August. No word on what this monument to excess will cost its lucky owner, but given the bloated price points of other Italian reskins of the latest and hottest, one can only expect a price tag that would make Croesus blush. That saidm, besides a fresh new Italian suit, the Hyperion doesn't offer anything that's not available at the Drophead's if-you-have-to-ask price of $412k. Besides envious looks at even the toniest of locales, of course. Which we can all agree is more important than mere money.

That much money and you have to climb over the side to get in or out? This will never be driven. It will just sit in some sheik’s warehouse.

Kind of ironic that you can still get 1930s style coachbuilt machines for the ultra wealthy, while mass-market manufacturers are going TU and selling like mad. Only this time there isn’t a GM to consolidate everything.
Here in Los Angeles, Hyperion is a large sewage treatment facility. On the other hand, it is the sewage treatment facility to the stars.
Somethng similar to the Maybach Excelero, only one off. Maybach could probably seel that too, but how many though?

I see one of those Dropheads around here in La Quinta, CA. I asked a friend, and it turns out it’s the wife of the CEO of Cargill. Upon seeing a friend’s new SLR convertible, her Continental GT convertible was not unique enough, so she somehow got a Drophead some time last year.
