Is anyone surprised? Automotive News [sub] reports that GM is extending the 0% financing for everyone deal through July 7. The conditions are the same: 0 percent financing on most vehicles if you're able to make it through a dealership's door under your own power. Dealers who have increased floor traffic are happy because they're even selling SUVs and full-sized pickups. GM spokesman Pete Ternes said they'll "heavily advertise and promote the sale, especially over the July 4th weekend." With the problems GMAC is already having, giving away money for the next six years can't help their situation. And practically giving away the inventory can't be making GM much money, either. Hole. Digging. Stop. Meanwhile, GMAC is launching a "rate incentive program" on select GM Certified Used Vehicles, including the Chevrolet Impala and Malibu, but especially SUVs. "Well-qualified customers also can receive GMAC 4.9% APR financing for terms up to 60 months on 2003-2008 models of Chevrolet Trailblazer, Tahoe and Suburban; GMC Envoy, Yukon and Yukon XL; Pontiac G6; and Buick Lacrosse vehicles at participating GM Certified Used Vehicles dealers." Yeah, that'll work.

Okay, that was funny.
GM is trying to move the metal during bad times. It will cost them to more to have it sitting on the lot than to move it for little or no profit.
But when will they be able to sell it at a profit when everyone knows that if they wait long enough they’ll pretty much give it away?
Zero percent financing for “everyone” is usually everyone with excellent credit. If you like the vehicle, it’s like a cherry on top.
Forget fleet sales for reducing resale value. What happens when the market is flooded in two years with upside-down defaults on vehicles that were deeply discounted new to begin with?
Run screaming.
I’m looking forward to 2012, when you can buy a 2009 Malibu with 30k miles on it $7500. LTZ with leather and all the goodies for $9995.
I may buy a few for my friends.
I’m really having a hard time resisting the urge to go buy a big cushy Lucerne.

I feel ya. I want one with the Northstar. There’s something to be said for a rocket-powered couch. Who needs cornering? The roads are fairly straight around these parts.
It shouldn’t be long before you can get one gently used by someone’s dearly departed grandpa for four figures.
I knew it would last beyond June 30. I still think they’ll keep extending it all summer until Labour Day and then it’ll end, once their massive truck inventory is depleted.
I feel ya. I want one with the Northstar. NO YOU DON’T, unless you have a money tree. The engine sounds great and has lots of power but will do you in after 60,000 miles. Eating oil, multiple torque converter sensors, main seal failures, never smooth idle, and i could go on and on.
Stick with a V6 your wallet will thank you for it.
Seth, Axel
My mother would agree on the Buick. She has one. But then, she is 82. What’s your excuse?
You’ll still be better off waiting for the going-out-of-business sale. The residuals already suck and the price can only go down.
Its only zero % if you waive the vehicle rebates (ie finance your interest up front). Its not zero percent unless you can keep all the rebates and discounts. Its not rocket science.

I’m pretty sure that they aren’t discriminating against those that aren’t ambulatory.
GM should retrofit their moribund CPO SUV’s with the hybrid drivetrain; that’ll move em!
