If you have to ask the price, you can\'t afford it.You know Houston is a town riding high on oil revenue when the local Lamborghini dealer invites members of the media to gawk at their latest inventory. Seeing the LP560 up close and personal and getting my fingerprints (oops!) on the Reventón was fun. And it turns out that Lamborghini Houston is the world's volume leader for the Reventón, cornering 20 percent of market. So they're stacking 'em deep and selling 'em cheap? Not at $2.5m they're not. The Gallardo is a different story: Lamborghini is reacting to market changes faster than anyone expected. Without the restrictive "list" of their Maranello counterparts, Lamborghini faces a glut of '08 Gallardos languishing on dealer lots. The days of easy money are gone, and used Gallardos' resale value keeps new car demand low. So the Raging Bull now only produces LP560s after customers buy them and keeps costs to a minimum with a fancy-schmancy IT infrastructure. (Thanks, Audi!) The customer specs their Lambo via plasma screen in the dealership's ritzy lounge, and the money saved goes to customer-grabbing promotions like shows and racetrack events. And unlike the tsunami of Tundras threatening Toyota's sales numbers, nobody in Bologna fears underproduction. That's just more time for the craftsmanship, baby.

I’m gonna call it the Batmoghini.

Was the facade designed to deflect radar?

Any factory rebates or cash on the hood for those Gallardos?

I still can’t figure out the Reventon…Isn’t it just a Murci with some trcik body pannels? Beyond the stab you in the knee cap look, what would make me want the Reventon over the equivalent Ferrari, or hell, over a regular non stupid ass looking Murci or LP640?

Because the Reventon looks cool while every Ferrari currently in production does not.

About a month ago I got a phone call from a friend of mine who is the financial controller of a Dallas area IP law firm (i.e. patent trolls). He asked, “Guess what I just did. I cut a check for $1.6 million to pay for a Lamborghini Reventón for my boss’ husband.” But the guy (also a lawyer at the company) sold the car three days later for $1.8 million. The attorney didn’t really need the Reventón. He’s already got a Gallardo. Suing Microsoft for patent infringement must be a good racket!

I’ve got one question for you; is it as ugly looking in person as in the photos?

I hate myself for it, but I really want this car.

What is the name of that movie where the guy buys the Lambo copy and it turns out to be a total pile of crap just a mile from the factory. Why can’t I remember that name.

Nah, I almost liked it. (not considering the price) Aside from the wheels, the design is coherent. Every line has a reason to exist, and a complementary line nearby to tie it all together. And the coolest detail: Lambo’s signature louvered hood is made of sheets of tempered glass, like a high-end wet bar.

But I’d still rather have a Murcelago…or the Ford GT also in the showroom. Or 9 Ford GTs and a Veyron for that price.

How about an electric Lambo to give the Tesla some competition? How many thousands of horsepower can they crank out?

This car is the biggest rip-off in the auto industry today. Audi should be ashamed of themselves for making what is nothing but an über-expensive Murci with a body kit and some LED’s.

  • avatar

Its not a rip off if people around the world line up for it. Granted, it does say a lot about the people who’d buy a Reventón…but that’s a whole ‘nother story.

Just because a person doesn’t think they are being ripped-off, does not make it true. I bet if you paid a custom tuner to build a body kit and add some LED lights to a stock Murci to make it look like the Reventon it would cost you ½ of what Audi Lambo charges.
