I’m guessing this was accomplished by slapping a “500” body on the frame backwards, and replacing the rear with a front type axle so that the rear wheels were free to turn, without any steering input.

Unfortunately I doubt it. The last time Chrysler worked with a Fiat brand the result was an expensive LeBaron.
