My three-year anniversary with TTAC is rapidly approaching. After meeting many great people because of this website, it’s time to meet the Best and Brightest who hail from the Bayou City. This concrete jungle has plenty of automotive venues, so let’s make it happen with the finest iron on the road today. I suggest the “Cars and Coffee” event: a non-denominational, show-n-shine type of affair. There’ll be downhome hospitality, tasty cupcakes and Starbuck’s finest to take the chill out of the winter air. Or the winter heatwave off your face: everyone knows the weather in this town is more changeable than GM’s plans for Cadillac. See you there!
When: Saturday, February 7th, from 8:30 a.m. to whenever.
Where: The parking lot surrounding the Starbucks in 1151 Uptown Park. That’s at Post Oak Blvd at Highway 610. [Google map here.] The venue is family friendly.
Bonus! To indentify yourself from the riff-raff, the code word is “B&B.” Anyone wearing a lapel badge with those letters qualifies for one free Venti coffee, no drips, flavors, soy or other misegos.

The black one has a Ontario plate,I think.
I’d love to drive down but looking at the weather
maps the snow and salt stretches a thousand miles south. Not real Firebird friendly, the Impala could handle a road trip and it could certainly use a shine hmmmmm?
Both are Texas plates.
I’d love to make it as well, my native city is Houston (a suburb actually…Kingwood).
Has Texas allways had front licence plates?
Great idea Robert, I’m looking forward to this.
Uh, I put the wrong byline on this piece. It’s Sajeev’s thing.
I will try to make it… Depends on what my paymasters say, and if I can get RUF to loan me a car.
Dagnabbit, you would schedule this for one weekend after I move away…
RF: I might be able to scrounge up a RUF for you. És possible!
mikey: as long as I can remember (early 80s) we have always had them. The Mark IV will lose its front one after it gets the “Classic Vehicle” plate from the state.
TEXN3, cwallace and other Houston people: I’ll think of a way to corral everyone (probably with a phone number) and post it on the next reminder for this meeting.
We always were required to have front plates in TX.
Sajeev: I should have been more clear…I wish I could make it down, but Boise (current place of residence) is a long way from Houston.
Wild horses couldn’t drag me into Houston. ;)
Of course being 2490 miles away (thank you Google maps!) I’d likely be dead long before I was dragged to the Washington/Oregon border.
Any interest in doing one of these in/around Seattle?
–chuck
Of course it’s the one weekend I’ll be out of town helping the in-laws move.
Perfect timing.
I always thought those Lincoln’s were fairly handsome designs. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one with it’s original 462 MEL engine though.
Those Mark IV Lincolns bring back some memories! I had a ’72 white/white, same hubcaps as the black one. I was 19 years old at the time and I really enjoyed raising the netherworld with that awesome 460.
TEXN: well I can’t blame you for keeping the Lone Star State in your TTAC handle.
NickR: the MEL died in the late 60s, even the Mark III had the 385 series big block for most of its life.
kericf: this particular gathering happens the first Saturday of every month. I betcha can make this happen every time, except for the free coffee thing.
Oh Man, I am booked up. See you guys next time though. No worries on the coffee, an Army experience kept me from ever liking the stuff.
Sajeev,
I think you meant to say mishegos, not misegos. My Yiddish sucks, so perhaps Jonny, Justin or anyone else with an Eastern European grandparent can correct this if I’m off.
C’mon, LA/Orange County — we TTACers in Southern California should do one of these. Maybe everybody could get free twice-filtered, half-caf, low fat caramel latte made with fair trade beans and topped with whipped cream from happy cows (hey, this is So Cal)…
Seriously, how about it?
Awesome! When can we expect the Atlanta meet? You Texans have all the fun…
A Chicago get-together would be cool, too!
We could give out awards for “Saltiest Vehicle,” “Most Unfortunate Pothole Damage,” “Most Scratches On Rear Bumper” (from everyone else’s front license plate bolts), etc.
jkross22: this is why factotum is now on board.
non-Houston people: I will make a point to have a TTAC meet if/when I make travel plans. ATL would be my choice, because we have four TTAC staff members there.
CAHIBOstep:
Having grown up an hour south of Chicago, I can totally relate! You forgot “earliest rust-through”, though.
And given Chitown’s status as HQ of Swift and Armour, how about some city-specific models…Caddy Coupe deVeal and Fleetwood Broug-ham? Pontiac Bone-aville? Buick Pork Avenue? OK, I’ll stop.
Stay warm, dude!
Everybody should come to Winnipeg for a meet & greet!
It’s awesome here this time of year. A balmy -40 something (celcius) with the windchill, boulevards still haven’t been cleaned of snow, some streets are still waiting to be cleared; come on, y’all would love it up here! I’d even dig out the firepit in the backyard and get all the lawnchairs out of winter storage for everybody.
Crap, I just can’t do a 1500 mile trip for a weekend’s get together.
Look for bearded dude driving probably a white Audi A3
Cool! Look for more info on finding me (without having to yell) in the crowd in the not too distant future.
@The_Imperialist
I live about a mile from the old Stockyards.
I will be getting rid of my Oldsmobile Cutlet Supreme very soon.
I will be replacing it with a Toyota, like everyone else. The new Hamry should fit the bill.
(Sorry)
Darn… I’ll be in Houston all week on business…and leaving Friday the 6th. I coulda pulled up in my rental whatever.
@CAHIBOstep
When I was a kid, the big hi-performance dealers were Nickey Chevrolet (with the backward K)and Mr. Norm’s Grand Spaulding Dodge. Are they still around?
@The_Imperialist
Those dealers were around before my time, but I did a little research so now I know what they were all about. Pretty cool. They both closed up shop in the ’70s.
You can find information about both of them on the Internet.
One look at the salt caked up on the roads right now and the Falcon would whither to a pile of ruddy dust. It is part way there already. Damn I wish I could take it out this time of year. Til we get a few good cleansing downpours in March or April, I wont be Squire-ing for a while.
