Jumped the shark indeed — how stupid.

I dunno, I thought it was funny for the first 30 seconds maybe. Then it just sorta dragged on, sorta like a toddler that says something funny so everyone laughs so he says it over and over again and doesn’t understand why no ones laughing anymore.

    Or like Saturday Night Live.

I thought it was funny, at least conceptually. The questions were sort of mumbled, and putting more of an awkward pause after each one as The Stig stared at them would have made it even better. I’m not sure this counts as jumping the shark just yet, since the show itself is still delightful.

It would take more then one bit, lame or not, to kill off TG. As long as the three guys have the love/hate chemistry going on, they’re gold.

“Jumped the shark” my steely buttocks!

This was funny, nothing more. I agree with aggrazel that it probably went on longer than it should, but it was still funny.

Letting “The Stig” (A.K.A. God) have his own press conference is good publicity for their “Top Gear Live!” show in Australia (which was the point of this exercise).

I don’t understand the reasoning as to how this makes Top Gear “Jump the Shark” to use your venacular….

They jumped the shark because 80% of their show is now just Hammond/Clarkson/May pranking each other, ruining each other’s pianos, giving each other weird gifts, painting crap on their cars, etc. without much thought to car reviews, or cars in general.

It’s like a reality show. Not many people will complain or notice how crappy the show has gotten because everyone likes Clarkson & Friends and their antics, but watch their older shows and you’ll notice a difference.

This is a classic example of jumping the shark. The Stig holding a press conference in which he sits mute has nothing to do with cars, which is what Top Gear is all about. This is just a comedy sketch. And a bad one at that.

People liked the outlandish antics and supercar sliding more than the straightforward car reviews with a copious drizzling of wit. The show evolved. It happens in TV all the time.

Watch it on Youtube instead. They edit out all of the really pedantic stuff, leaving only that which is still entertaining.

They even have their own channel so you don’t have to infringe on anyone’s intellectual property.

KatiePuckrik, it’s New Zealand, not Australia.

What a load of b*llocks, I guess those guys down under have a lot of time on their hands !

But is it the real stig?

    Who would know the difference!

Yeah, how could you possibly miss the diffence between the accents?

    …Honestly.

Lol, they’re aboot as similar as US and Canadian…..

Wheres the witty humor? I dont think it jumped the shark but things are getting stale.

I’ll cry the day this show goes under.

they’re about as similar as US and Canadian…

I’ve made it a personal rule when traveling, that if I’m speaking with someone (say in Germany) and I can’t pick the accent, I always pick Canadian first, rather than northern US.

You can’t offend the Canadian then….

Not sure what the ‘safety-first’ rule should be for Aussies vs New Zealanders.

This could have been edited down to 30 seconds and actually been funny.

as for Top Gear, the show has a great mix of humor and cars so it won’t jump the shark anytime soon. My problem is, they aren’t tackling enough consumer level cars. Why haven”t the gotten the Honda Accord, 2008 CTS or Altima?

I like their car reviews, but the “fun” they have on the side such as making a house out of an old benz, is barely passable.

What you’re seeing is the apogee. The descent is next.

I’ll be honest mate, we’re both so petty and parochial that you’d probably offend someone either way!
