The dealer ain’t gonna sign the deal unless the customer signs first.

Just because the customer signs the buyers order (deal) doesn’t mean they have bought the car though, occasionally customers find ways to run after getting signed numbers, try as any dealer might to prevent that from happening.

When a customer comes in with a buyers order from another dealer it is the easiest deal possible, they have already picked out the car they want, and pretty much agreed on figures, all you have to do is undercut the price a bit. On the other side of the same hand, it is the most frustrating loss when you are following up and you hear your customer just went down the street after leaving and did the same thing to you. I suppose it evens out in the end.

    * At best, this ad is an invitation to competing VW dealers to send in ringers with signed offers to buy below cost. At worst, it might be illegal. Many jurisdictions strictly forbid the baiting of customers who have already signed a purchase agreement.

** The referral fee will be tacked onto the selling price. Gee, with friends like that who needs enemies?

“Hey, you know the guys across town will take this and give me an extra $600 off it. If you make it $500 extra, we’ve got a deal, right here and right now.”

When have you ever been able to walk out of the dealership with that 4-square or scratch pad or whatever the call that write-up sheet?

I’ve bought 10 new cars and not bought about 20 others and all I’ve left with is either a new car or my old car keys

Of course, the second half of this, um, solicitation is illegal in most states. Cash for bird-dogging is a no-no. Bird dogs are not employees and cannot, therefore, receive cash for referrals as they are not legal representatives of said firm. You can give a bird dog other consideration, say discounted parts or service. But cash for referrals (which I doubt this dealer has any intention of honoring) is verboten in many areas of the U.S.

I hope your not going to hold them too accountable for the [sic]. You’re standards are set too high and your being unrealistic if you expect everybody to uphold you’re grammatical rules.

Sarcasm aside, when are professionals going to begin to give a damn about writing correctly? Had this ad been describing something a bit more worthy of my interest, I would have been completely turned away by the lack of care that went into their presentation.

No friend would refer you to a VW dealership.

I have never had a dealer put in a formal document what his offer was. A couple of scribbles on the back of a card or brochure is all I get.

Consumer Reports caused me to end up at a VW dealership to buy a Passat in 2001. Some friend CR turned out to be.

Agreed you will never be able to leave a dealer with a dealer signed offer.
