Is it beginning to seem like we’re stuck in a 1971 time warp? Sorry, if that era is a bit painful for some of you. True confessions: I don’t like writing when it’s nice outside. And it’s glorious here in the summer. I wrote this six-car comparison back when it was still rainy and gray. So I’m “on vacation”, and you’re stuck in the early seventies for three more weeks. But for you dear CC readers, I offer this faint hope: If I’m inspired, or if writers start getting paid again (god forbid), I might increase the Curbside Classics once the weather turns crappy in the fall. How often would you like to see a fresh old moldy car?
Oh, and if you already know this week’s car from the results of the C/D test, please don’t spoil it for the others still hanging in deep suspense. Thanks!

Does that one actually drives? It seems that it have been in a barn for centuries…
All the cars west of the cascades in the Pacific Northwest are moldy after a couple of decades.
Keep ’em coming
Does knowing the participants in the comparo count as a spoiler? I have no idea who placed where, I’m going to guess Corolla.
Stingray, after being outside for decades, cars in the NW begin to resemble old, weathered rocks. Fir (and other tree) pollen gets caught in the nooks and crannies, and that gives an organic base for lichens, and eventually mosses to start growing. I’ve got some pictures for future CC that are look like a driveable rock garden.
Don’t know the car but i’m gonna guess it’s blue…
Barracuda?
Looks like the hood of the 71 Simca 1204.
pb35 – If that’s a 71 ‘cuda all molded and abused like that it is a crime against humanity.
But in keeping with the Chrysler idea, I’ll guess it’s a Plymouth Scamp. Not quite sure if the Scamp fits into the small/compact category but I can’t really think of anything smaller that Chrysler built at that time.

It wouldn’t hurt my feelings to see this feature daily! I loves me some Curbside Classics! I know that’s not possible, but I’d dig it.
If it’s part of the 1971 econobox comparison series, I’m guessing either a Toyota Corolla or a Simca 1204.
Even though I was born years after many, if not all, of the Curbside Classics, I really like the feature. It’s interesting to take a look at the old vehicles and see what people thought then and now. It’s also cool to see how cars have progressed throughout the years.
I don’t want to cheat, and not remembering the 1971 comparison, I’m guessing that the remaining cars have to be three out of the following:
Toyota Corolla; Datsun 510; Chevrolet Vega; Fiat 124; Simca 1204; Plymouth Cricket
For sure it’s not the Simca or the Vega – not the same hood lip at all.
I’m leaning towards the Datsun or the Cricket.
No way a Cricket finished third. My vote is for 510. (Though it’s hard to imagine a Vega was superior…strange days)

Oh, the Vega wasn’t superior, just a different hood line…….
CC once a week please. How bout you even pick a day of the week for it? So the Best and Brightest can look forward to it like we do to “The Autobiography of BS.”
educatordan, Tuesday has been CC day since almost from the beginning.
Two door 71 corolla with a vinyl half-roof.
