Whale tail is the Y-shaped waistband of a thong or g-string when visible above the waistline of low-rise jeans, shorts, or a skirt that resembles a whale’s tail. Intentionally or unintentionally, a whale tail is exposed above the trousers mostly when sitting or bending, or even while standing. The frequency or occasion depends on the style of trousers, the style of underwear, and the way they are worn. Flashing whale tails became popular in the early 2000s, together with the rise of low-rise jeans and thong underwear. The trend, popularized by a number of celebrities including Christina Aguilera, Victoria Beckham, Mariah Carey, Melanie Blatt, Paris Hilton, Jordan, Anna Kournikova, and Britney Spears waned within the decade.

You didn’t scroll down far enough in Wikipedia.
Try “Rear spoilers”.
As far as the picture goes, I don’t see anything wrong with it, though the pink/red portion of the color scheme might be a bit loud.
It’s not even a whale tail…unless there are cetaceans whose tails are supported by two outboard struts.
Google “Porsche 930”. Now THAT’S a whale tail!
It’s aquatic animal night here at TTAC!
Now we just need some Corvette “Stingray”, Plymouth Barracuda, and Opel Manta posts.

It’s not even a whale tail…
Agreed.
TZ, Boff:
Agreed.
The problem is that it is a great sounding Porsche. What did they do wrong that made it sound so right?
It’s a wonderful sounding Porsche. I don’t care if the GT2 or GT-R would be faster in a straight line… I’d buy that car just for the sound.
That’s assuming I had more than two kidneys to sell.
Man, you let those “4 Fast 83 Furious” kids get ahold of a smashed Volkswagen Beetle; -the first thing they do is put a damn huge wing on it!
yeesh.
I’m with you willman; it looks like a drifter. I can’t imagine any self respecting German would be seen in a Porsche gussied up like this.
the diffeence is that on the Porsche that thing probably serves a purpose beyond fashion. On cars where it’s fashion, it’s certainly just as declassee as the visible thong.
Wing and Whale Tail are not quite the same thing.
This GT3RS has the vestiges of a Whale Tail, but that stickie-up part is a Wing.
Wing is most useful, as any racer will tell you. Downforce can correct a number of chassis set-up ills (just dial in a little more Wing, will ya?), and make a perfectly sorted car even better.
Wing has also been cliched to death by Boy Racers (or is it, Ricers?) screwing aluminum go-fasts to the back of their front wheel drive Acuras and Hondas. Why one needs rear downforce, creating lift at the front of a front-drive car has never made much sense, but hey, it looks, um, well, uh, cool if you happen to be 13 years old.
This GT3RS, being a seriously tweaked, track-ready 911 happens to actually go fast enough that a rear Wing enhances high speed performance — therefore, it has one. German engineering types are usually not known for articifical ornamentation of their homologation sports cars. The Wing is there because it works.
So what’s wrong with this picture? Can’t find a thing. Excuse me now while I go back and play the video another dozen or so times.
Whale tail garish paint whatever I still want one.
