I bought 5000 shares of Ford when it was $1.49
Everyone said I was crazy.
Now its over $7 a share. :-P
I’m just waiting for GM to finish their bankruptcy proceedings so I can purchase 10,000 shares of GM.
I really was’nt wondering, but I should be able to sleep better now.

Nope, don’t really care.
The truck is even more ugly than the last generation. And the interior is just as bad.
Ford just can’t get their trucks right…(unless you go by severely inflated and misleading capability numbers…then they clearly are the best)

Oh, I get it; the guys who buy diesels in their trucks use them for real work, so they don’t need to advertise their engine like the poseurs that buy gasoline V8s in their “work” trucks.
An outstanding truck with the best interior and best capability just got even better. Seems logical to me, but then I am clear-headed and don’t have an entirely irrational hatred of Ford!

I hafta jump in with my 2c worth at this point.
I never did understand the Yankee obsession with adding electronic controls to diesel motors. The Detroit Diesel 6.2L V8, a fine motor, and the one found in my 1985 Suburban, is probably the last of the “fully mechanical” types that can run, in some kind of fashion, under the widest range of conditions, fuels, defects or breakages.
Diesels in trucks are now for poseurs and black-smokers. Pah!

Despite which, half the reason gas engines are so freaking amazing these days is the electronics on them enable squeezing that last bit out of the motor. Diesels have lagged in the electronics department, but are catching up fast.
I don’t think the mid 80’s was the end of mechanical diesel in the US, I think even into the late 90’s some stuff was at least part mechanical (Dodge trucks?)
AICfan beat me to it. The US diesel emissions standards are so much higher than Europe’s (mainly due to California’s restrictions that the rest of the country gets muscled into adopting) that the only way you can get any kind of decent output is through tons of computers and electronic controls.
The current 6.4 liter Powerstroke is already one of the quietest diesels on the road, this new one is just amazing. The mediocre 6.4 liter and 5.4 gas V8 have been the only things holding back the Super Duties from complete dominance in the heavy duty truck market, nice to see that situation is about to be fixed.
Hooray! (I like common rail and piezo injectors.)
Don’t know if it sell more trucks though. If Ford really did develop this engine all by their lonesome, without outside help, AND it is reliable in the field; I will be truly, truly impressed.

As a black man that enjoys my occasional smoke (Marlboro Reds), I have to disagree.
Ford did a great job of subduing the annoying clatter that accompanies most diesels.
For not getting their trucks right they sure sell well
Can’t see the point of most of the HD trucks I’m seeing lately. Perhaps I’m just seeing them getting lunch or on the drive home but 90% of the big trucks I’ve seen could be replaced by old school S-10 four cylinder trucks.
Seems like the HD trucks are doing HD a small amount of the time. Why not medium sized trucks doing heavy work a small amount of the time? Or make a couple extra trips a few times per month?
Tired of the monster vehicles doing commuter duty and crowding up the roads. And no, I don’t drive a Miata. VBG!

I bought GM bonds for pennies on the dollar just prior to bankruptcy so that I could be first in line for the new GM shares(bondholders are to be given ten percent stake in the new company). I know it’s a big gamble but I think one that is worth the risk.

And as to all those super duty trucks running around…If you pull a huge boat on the Weekend you still have to have the truck even thouugh you dont use it the other 5 days of the week.
Actually its not so much that our emissions standards are so much stricter than Europe’s, its that thanks to oil company lobbying, our diesel fuel is much worse. For years I worked for a class 8 truck maker, and our data had US diesel as delivered at the pump in the lowest possible tier for contaminants and refinement – worse than most of the third world and well below the more refined diesel available throughout Europe.

Don’t worry you can still buy OLD GM stock. Despite warnings from the SEC, new GM, and anybody who can read a P&L, you can still buy stock in the BK’d company.

My Dad’s a diesel mechanic. He lamented that in order to fix take the heads off these Powerstroke Fords you have to lift off the cab too. Apparently they use really terrible fasteners, so he said he couldn’t imagine what they’d look like in ten years.
I trust him, heh.
