GM sources speaking to Bloomberg say that Ed Whitacre has told employees that he could stay in the position of CEO for as long as a year. During a 30 minute broadcast to GM’s staff, Whitacre said that the search for Fritz Henderson’s replacement could take as little as a several months, but that he was prepared to stay on as CEO for as long as a year. Whitacre reportedly also said that there were no further firings planned. [Hat Tip: Tex Lovera]

no further firings planned…this week.
Watch your head, Mr. Lutz, ol Ed’s got an itchy hatchet finger.
The situation was well described by Scott Adams.

The one for December 2.
Exactly what this post needed! Thanks!
Agreed, a fine improvement over that gawd awful clip of Whitacre reading from a notepad.
Good grief.
Double-plus 1
I thought the clip had all the feel of “found somebody off the street, handed him a notepad and said ‘here, read this’.”
The termination of Fritz didn’t seem all that “planned,” either.
In other words, Mr. Whitacre, it’s business as usual. Carry on.
That’s how long it’ll take them to convince Mitt Romney to run the company. :)
Oh, I gotta get off the glue!
Please, just one more! Docherty(?) has got to go! Lutz might retire soon, so he’s no bother.
OK …Mr Whitacre I will throw my hat into the ring. Here’s my terms. I keep my hourly pension, but I need a life long guarantee. My normal min. is 12 bucks an hour. This gig is full time so I need 25. Hey…! a G note a week and BTW that’s in US $. I get to keep the first Camaro drop top off the line. Pretty cheap comp package eh? You can even use my old employee number.
If he will have us, I’m going after “BUICKMAN” as the marketing dude. Christy Garwwood gets the media spokesperson gig. I’m keeping Ms Docherty,b/c from this old dude’s view point,I think she’s kind’a hot.
Amen. At least if you screw it up it won’t cost the tax payer and arm a leg and a golden parachute.
Until the top 10%+ of management is fired, nothing will change. Lifers know no other way. They are simpluy incapable of change. If they were, they’d never have been promoted at GM.
A top-performing org will always have a few lifers. More than a few lifers is always the kiss of death.
I nominate mikey for pres, or vp post of his choosing. He’s obviously dedicated, knows how an asembly line actually works, and seems to have an open mind. His posts over the last year or so make far more sense than anything coming out of the Tubes.
Ditto on Buickman.
A new CEO is needed.. hmmm.. Well I know this one chap who could use some executive experience. He’s a nice guy.. Seems to try hard and has good people skills.
Here is his e-mail address:

Thank you, Mikey, for the props!
