Infiniti will show this C-segment coupe-hatch, named Etherea, at the Geneva Auto Show, as a glimpse at the brand’s 2014 time-frame compact, front-drive offerings. But, for those of us who grew up in the 80s, the Etherea’s name is at least as likely to recall the distant planet that served as the home of He-Man’s twin sister, She-Ra. But rather than serving as the battleground between the Rebellion and the evil forces of Hordak, the Etherea is a new opportunity to highlight the hybrid drivetrain from the M35h as well as “innovative access arrangements” that Infiniti is keeping secret for now. Which is probably for the best… apparently She-Ra was a Panther girl

All of Infiniti’s designers need to fired.
The only attractive cars they’ve ever built were the original Q45 and the last M45 (albeit a bit bland) and the original FX.
I want to like their cars, but they are always weird, but not in a good way. For example, the G35 (original and current) looked effeminate, slab-sided, ill-proportioned, with a mix of ricer. The coupe added a touch of Altima blandness (actually, he Altima of that era looked nicer).
The M30 looked like a Japanese economy sedan. I’ll actually give Infiniti a break on this one, as this seems to have been a temporary model imported to shore up their lineup.
The J30 was a good start — for a prototype. The final result was blech with a mix of bad packaging.
The original M35 would have been cool — in the 1970s.
The 2nd and 3rd Gen Q45 would have been cool — in the 1980s.
The I was a Maxima.
The G20 was handsome from the rear, OK from the sides, and looked like a Corolla (or was it a Geo?) from the front.
The thing pictured above looks like Bangle-ized Z4 roadters stretched to coupe form:

I had a first generation Q45… Nice to know someone else out there appreciates the good clean design (aside from the 1987 Civic hatchback nose, anyway). Good performer too. Just a shame they left out seat heaters, otherwise it was a perfect (now) cheap luxo barge with a proper sonorous gas hoovering V8 and tidy handling.
I like the G35, and can’t understand why Nissan decided to screw it up for the G37.
The old Altima was better-looking. To say nothing of the 300ZX.
Now it’s all screwups, like the QX.
Right now, I can’t think of a single Nissan / Infiniti I’d be happy to be seen driving.
The sound that you hear is the Pontiac Aztek and Subaru Tribecca laughing.
I guess this saves Pixar the work of designing a villain car for Cars 3.
Not sure how the design relates to the Aztek or the Tribeca at all. In terms of Cars 3, didn’t you know?: the eyes and eyebrows are on the windshield now.
Nah, the Juke saved the Aztec from being the punchline.
God, that’s even uglier than the QX56. What are they smoking at the Infiniti design studios?
The Urethra? What kind of a dick would drive one of those?
A Urologist named Dick. BTW Go back several decades Buick used to be refered to as the “Doctor’s Car” Apparently the reasoning went that they were at the price point above Chevy and Pontiac but below Cadillac.
Wow. I think their designers must be in competition with one another of who can design the goofiest looking vehicles! I guess someone may like it, but…not me. Is it just me, or are too many of the front ends – headlights and grilles of cars coming from Asia starting to look like snakes and dragons? If so, why?
Good god, why do car designers (in general) feel the need to make vehicles willfully ugly nowadays? I’ve seen a trend towards this in the last few years (ever since we got used to the Bangle-ized BMW line everyone has taken the cue to start making cars that are so avant garde they are hideous).
All the more reason for me to stick to my favourite vehicular era – 1989-1998. For bikes and cars that is the pinnacle of clean design and good performance before the electronic nanny state took the fun out of everything, and Chris Bangle perverted the world’s sense of aesthetics.
+1
It would have fit in well in “Cars” as the smart-a$$, snarky sophisticate.
I was thinking along the same lines, this car looks like Lighting McQueen’s divorce lawyer. I’ve seen plenty of cars that looked like the designers deliberately made the front end look like a face, but I’ve never seen a car that the rear end looked like a face as well.
Ahhhhh…it looks like a kitty…or maybe toothless the dragon from “How to train your dragon”.
That huge 1/4 window by the A-pillar is awful.
It’s still better than the QX56 though. I’m glad it doesn’t have a pot-belly bulging grille or fake ventiports.
If only Infiniti’s looked more like Kias. Never thought I’d say that.
MY EYES!
Infinity can’t let Nissan have all the fun with the Juke. They need something for Juke owners to aspire to in the Infinity brand. This is it.
I miss the older BMW designs. What happened to simple and sophisticated, like 2002 5-series or a 2001 7-series?
Dumb name but I love the looks.
I know this is secondary, but…
Where are the rearview mirrors?
it’s been a long time since a car actually looked sinister, i approve. Would you rather everyone drove Corollas?
I actually like the way this vehicle looks. I like the detail on the sides and the front, but it would be nice if the back were a little different looking.

Japanese car design (if you can call it that) has always looked as if the designer’s creative faculties atrophied sometime around the junior-high school years.
My, what an open-minded, worldly opinion you possess! So there’s never been a Japanese vehicle that you liked?
The front-end is somewhat reminiscent of a shark. Perhaps they’ll market it to personal injury lawyers.
I love this! If this goes into production as is, it will be instantly recognizable as a Infiniti – unlike the hordes of Crucivrollas on the road.
As we say here in East TN, just two big ol’ whiskers away from bein’ full-on catfish!
That C pillar (or in this case would you call it a D pillar?) is really awful. Infiniti should stop trying to channel Bangle.
