Tucked away in the corner of Fiat’s booth was the Serbian-built 500L. The most striking part of the car was the interior – it’s much more subdued than the regular 500, lacking the flashy, colorful hard plastic dash surfaces. It looks more Dart than Fiat, really.

My word. It has none of the character of the standard 500.
I much prefer Mini’s take on a 4-door in the Countryman. And I dislike the Countryman to begin with.
+1…I could not have said it better thank you.
Deleting the cutesy retro ‘character’ is an improvement in my book. If Mini follows suit, I might start considering their car too.
I want to see a sporty Italian hatchback, but all I see is a Fiat Multipla with a rhinoplasty.
^^^ Yep, this. Not quite sure why they would stretch (and I do mean stretch) the 500 brand to incorporate this travesty. Why not just introduce it as the Multipla here in the states?
A photo would really help describe that remarkable interior.
They need to jack it up and put 4WD on it.
Nooooo! Because you and I both know that the moment they do that, there will be nothing stopping them from putting a Jeep badge on it. Sacrilege!
If you’re going to tell us that the interior is the most interesting part of the car, might you consider posting a photo of said interior?
Ugh. Really? This 500L is to the 500 what the Clubman is to the new Mini. A mutated and deformed cousin with an glandular disorder that should have been shot at birth.
“A mutated and deformed cousin. . . shot at birth” Priceless. This is why I visit this web site regularly.
Mini does ugly, unwanted cars better. Get Mr. Mehta there pronto!
I don’t think it’s so bad, but it is built at the old Yugo factory.
Yup the one that was once bombed in the Balkans war.

On a positive note I saw a nice base model 500 in nifty light green. young single mama driving a STICK with 2 little kids in the back. how retro cool is that?
