Apparently, the new Porsche 911 Targa will have some kind of trick glass retractable roof. I’m just happy that the classic lines of the pre-993 Targa models have returned. Please, Porsche, let us order some classic Fuchs alloys and a “911 SC” badge for good measure.

For original Fuchs wheels, accept no substitute:

what he said…Fuchs alloys with hand painted center caps..the bomb..
Black deep dish Fuchs or the silver spokes/black edges Fuchs?
I’m an 80s 3.2 Carrera guy so I would want the former.
I know these things are ridiculous stupid expensive now, but man oh man…..
I’ll be impressed when it comes with a flat 6 air cooled engine .

Yeah, no more stinkin’ self-destructin’ water-cooled nonsense!
And while you’re at it, shave 500 pounds off the 911. I would like “porker” to just be an affectionate nickname again, please.
If you are willing to stomach a power reduction of roughly 100hp, this could be done. There was no way to cool 4 valve cylinder heads with air, so Porsche had to switch to water. That, and engine noise regulation.
But where’s it retract TO? It’s not above or below the rear glass in the photo.
It retracts into your garage (that’s the trick).
+1
It looks like the rear glass and deck tilt up (you can see a line in the body) and then the targa roof goes right behind the rear seats. It will be interesting to see in action.
I wasn’t aware Porsche still made Porsches.
Even after subtracting SUV’s and the Panamery, Porsche are selling more sportscars than ever before.
I’m sure the targa option will start at $15,000 and go up from there depending on if you order it with carbon fiber, leather or ostrich lining.
I might need to find a new source of income. This might be worth carrying a bunch of useless executives towards mission accomplishment, or even putting up with government thugs and paying their blood money.
Looks silly. I know it sounds like a dumb comment in a thread about 911s but retro is dead. I much much much prefer the new Targa look on the modern bodies.
Sporty
Surely there are still many bodies from 1973 that would look good in a Targa.
O I’m not saying the old Targa shape is ugly. It looks good… on old 911s. The change with the 993 looks better on the newer bodies.
I agree; it looks awkward to me, putting too much visual weight on the rear of the vehicle. But they are masters at getting good money for nostalgia, so I can’t really blame them for doing it.
It’s not exactly “beautiful” but at least it isn’t downright ugly like the cabrio 911 (of all generations).
Those things are just downright ill-proportioned from all angles.
If I were in the market for a new P car this might rank up there. Hopefully dentists and SoFla citizens buy these in great numbers so I can pick one up in 4-5 years once the new has worn off.
No stainless hoop? Weak sauce. Or will that be a $5K option?
Always preferred the later (’78-’89) blacked-out trim myself.
6pm pedantism.
TTAC Staff, your referring to yourself in the first person singular here.
Heh heh. I love the slow reveal of the TTAC Staff robot/college student/alien.
As an aside, you set up a perfectly pedantic comeback in you’re comment.
Think of TTAC Staff as something like the Borg, a collective with an individual personality.
Resistance is futile.
Alice Krige: so hot.
