Just in time for super-low gas prices, Dodge’s Hellcats will cost $3,650 to $4,200 more next year — at least — Autoblog is reporting.
The 2016 Challenger Hellcat will start at $65,190 — including destination and gas guzzler tax, an increase of $4,200 over 2015. The Charger will start at $68,640 — including destination and tax, which is an increase of $3,650.
(Those prices don’t reflect the “market adjustment” one could likely see for the highly coveted, limited-production vehicles. Although, Dodge really doesn’t like that.)
Pricing isn’t official from Dodge, but Autoblog says they’ve confirmed the figures for next year. Roughly 900 customers who ordered Challenger and Charger Hellcats had their orders cancelled last month after Dodge said it would ramp up production of the muscle cars. The report says those customers would get $5,000 and $4,000 off their Charger and Challengers, respectively.
The report also details a similar price hike for most SRT models, the Challenger SRT 392 will see a $3,150 price hike to $51,190 and the Charger SRT 392 will jump $3,000 to $51,990.
For your extra dough, you get leather as standard.
So if someone ordered a 2015 with the non-leather seats, and it was changed to a 2016 with non-leather seats, it would be an extremely rare car, no?
I planned on trading my Jeep for a Black Charger Hellcat. The first to arrive in NYC.
They told me $90,000 over the phone…I go there planning to negotiate down…and I get met with a $105,000 sticker. It sold for $115,000.

FREE MARKET FTW…
And I know someone will pop up and say: “you’d be stupid to pay over on this car”. Thing is, this may be the last HEMI that gets made considering the damage the liberals are doing to the car market.
I’m willing to accept up to a $10,000 overage.
I’m liberal, I like cars.
Your blanket statement does not compute.
Are you complaining that some people would rather have fuel-efficient cars instead of 700 horsepower shitboxes?
Because not everyone wants or needs 700 horsepower shitboxes. Especially one that’s going for $100k.
If I have means to spend $100k on a car, I sure as hell ain’t buying a Dodge.
I’d rather have an R8.
Considering we are in the most powerful car market ever, looks like the liberals are killing us.
OTOH I’m perfectly happy with a boosted 4 or 6 cylinger that can be more than capable of going beyond any reasonable limit our roads and conditions dictate.
But that’s just me. The Hellcats, while awesome, are just penis pumps for the ones who outgrew ZR-1s.
So the displacement taxes in Europe causing the Germans to drop their engine displacement and the CAFE mandates forcing us towards gazillion-speed transmissions and barely any V8’s left doesn’t worry you?
Never underestimate the draw of a Penis Pump.
Even 12″ could be 13″…
“So the displacement taxes in Europe causing the Germans to drop their engine displacement and the CAFE mandates forcing us towards gazillion-speed transmissions and barely any V8’s left doesn’t worry you?”
No, because I see plenty of V8s as it is, and the typical smaller displacement engine of today performs far better than larger displacement engines of yesterday. That includes V-8s, you know…like the 5.7 in the Charger, which makes twice the horsepower as the 7.5 455 did in my ’75 Olds. Meanwhile, that V-8 Charger gets decent mileage around town, while my Olds got 10 mpg…on a good day.
That’s called “progress,” BTSR. And don’t worry…you’ll be able to drive a HEMI for the foreseeable future…just like Obama did himself before he became president.
“No, because I see plenty of V8s as it is, and the typical smaller displacement engine of today performs far better than larger displacement engines of yesterday.”
Yeah, except they don’t. They’re more expensive to repair, they have electronics that fail, and direct injection is a real bitch that causes carbon buildup. These engines won’t last as long as the older V8s. But hey, thanks for making the middle class subsidize corporate pollution. Nice work.
Maxb49,
I heard the same doom and gloom BS as a kid. All that fuel injection and emissions “crap” would make cars impossible to fix, they just won’t last like the older cars!
Thing is, back then an engine was absolutely done at a hundred thousand miles. The dealer wouldn’t give you a cup of coffee in trade on a car with that kind of mileage.
Now we’re stuck with family cars that do 0-60 in under 7 seconds, go past 200K running like new, and use half the gas the older V8s did.
If there’s more of that coming, I say bring it on.
So liberals are responsible for $115,000 Hellcats?
UM…..
If it is a case of “free” markets self regulating prices then would that not be the conservative’s fault?
Penis pump?
You can buy a few tons of Viagra for 115K.
Liberals are damaging the car market by killing off hemi’s???
Sounds like BTSR has been paying too much attention to Donald Trump.
After all….. Republicans must stick together.
“FREE MARKET FTW…”
Yep, the free market allows brain-damaged but weirdly effective marketing schemes. Here’s FCA’s “thinking,” such as it is, on Hellcat marketing…
1) Set prices artificially low compared with real-world value
2) Reap benefits of gullible media coverage that says “You can have this for just $70k!”
3) Artificially limit production for no technical or regulatory reason to drive real-world values even higher
4) Point to demand that is small, but greater than the artificial production limit, and talk about how much everyone wants your cars
Except FCA gets the same amount of money for each one they sell. That additional markup goes to the dealer.
Yes, it did. Once proven that the car can sustain the markup, however, FCA is raising the MSRP to get a piece of the additional pie.
What they got in exchange for the initial low prices, which they knew perfectly well were below market, was a lot of great publicity.
5) Use carbon credit offsets from the Fiat 500 EV to assuage the government’s CAFE demands, OR
6) Buy said credits from Tesla, the Hellcat’s chief competitor on the dragstrip.
Wait- You once saw a sticker for a Tesla P85D at $136K so all P85D’s are $136K, ignoring the fact that they actually lowered the price on them after that.
But you tell us you also know that Hellcats actually sell for $115K but you keep telling everyone they are $70K and a bargain against the P85D (which actually sells for $115K).
Supply and Demand drove up Hellcat prices.
The P85D similarly equipped is $135,000
You want one – GO BUY ONE.
RIGHT NOW…
Oops…you can’t.
Well, Teslas aren’t exactly sitting on any dealer lots in Brooklyn, thank you legislatures that keep Tesla from opening their own dealers.
But you can order one from Tesla, built to your specs, and I think they might even deliver it to you.
As you say “FREE MARKET FTW”.
>> The P85D similarly equipped is $135,000
If you ignore the ElonMath™ a base P85D Hellcat killer is 106,200. In my state, it’s $96,200 after the incentives.
At best it´s the most expensive way to commit suicide. At worst, you´re going to kill somebody else.
From all the videos I’ve seen this cars computer controls the power in a very linear controlled manner. Your no more as likely to kill someone in this than a Camry.
Besides at 65k it’s not that expensive looking at what the Euro marks give for that kind of money.
Where do these people get this ridiculous conjecture from?
What makes a car that goes from 0 -60 in 3 seconds any more dangerous than a car that goes from 0 – 60 in 5 seconds?
If the impact speeds are equal, either one will impart the same amount of energy.
A Hellcat is no more dangerous than any soul-less Japanese-imported econobox.
Hell I’ve yet to hear of a HELLCAT unable to stop and kill a whole family.
Can’t say the same bout Lexus….
oooooooooooo
“What makes a car that goes from 0 -60 in 3 seconds any more dangerous than a car that goes from 0 – 60 in 5 seconds?”
Nothing.
But its easier to get up to lethal speeds(60+) than in a “Japanese imported(is japanese cars made in usa better in any way?)econobox”.
And a heavier car makes more damage.
But i rather be going 200mph in a Porsche than this led brick.
I’m pretty sure that there was an article about how a new Hellcat went off the dealer’s lot and had an accident straightaway. Don’t be fooled, having less seconds to react makes a big difference to accident avoidance.
“soul-less Japanese-imported econobox”
So do cars *with* a soul weigh a little less right after they die?
“What makes a car that goes from 0 -60 in 3 seconds any more dangerous than a car that goes from 0 – 60 in 5 seconds?”
The fact that the former is a whole lot more likely to be going 150 rather than 90 at impact, especially when driven by the type of buyer with more testosterone than brainpower who is attracted to it.
dal20402 – I’m sure that there will be a small proportion of buyers with more testosterone than brains but for the most part, buyers of these kinds of vehicles tend to be compensating for dwindling testosterone levels.
Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis stated that the average age of a Dodge customer is 48 years old.
These are much more likely to be driven by a 50+ businessman than a testosterone filled twentysomething.
“These are much more likely to be driven by a 50+ businessman than a testosterone filled twentysomething.”
With a texting 25 y.o. babysitter in the passenger seat – don’t worry, Mom and baby are at the in-laws this week…
I had the opportunity drive a hellcat Challenger this past week, with the Red key. They are certainly not for the faint of heart, but I doubt the average CamCord driver has any interest in owning one. The computer controls in place are necessary for someone like me to keep me from hurting myself or others. With all that said, what a rush! I have no interest in owning one but you can’t beat the feeling of knowing that you have access to that much power.
It isn’t just the Hellcats. The SRT models are up $3-3,500 this year too.
Obama’s CAFE is starting to really put the squeeze on.
Actually, CAFE is Nixon’s baby. Even most conservatives concede that a nine year old Kenyan community organizer / socialist couldn’t have created CAFE.
But close!
This is Obama’s CAFE. The pain of Nixon’s CAFE ended when technology caught up with a 27.5 mpg fleet average. Perhaps reality isn’t your thing.
Please provide a quantum, an iota, a single scintilla of evidence that the President ordered a Dutch company how to price engine options.
This is a story about market pricing and nothing more.
The constant whining about Obama without any supporting facts gets old.
“The constant whining about Obama without any supporting facts gets old.”
Not to the haters. They’ll do it 24/7/365.
@VoGo – why let the truth get in the way of ideology?
Works for ISIL.
It’s the CAFE going to levels which will leave everyone driving Trabants with 0.5L quad-turbos that makes it his!
That explains why FCA is ramping up production of the Hellcats?
Maybe so they can make some hay before the sun goes away!
Yes, Dan, somewhere in the White House, Obama twists his nonexistent mustache and cackles, “Yesssss, we’ll just use CAFE to make Hellcat buyers pay more! BWAAHHAHAHAHAHHAAAAAAHAHHAHAAAAAAA!”
I’m sure the fact that demand totally outstrips supply for this model, which means the cost goes up – you know, that thing called “capitalism” – has nothing to do with it. Yep, it’s all Obama’s fault.
(And we wonder why Donald Trump is leading in the polls.)
>>> And we wonder why Donald Trump is leading in the polls.
Well, because there’s a large number of CJinSDs in the US?
Trump, a Dem until 3 years ago, is a creation of the current prez.
“no president in modern times has presided over so disastrous a stretch for his party, at almost every level of politics.”

“”Under our Constitution, I cannot run again,” Obama told members of the African Union during a recent trip to Ethiopia, adding, “I think if I ran, I could win.”
“According to the Monmouth poll, Obama should be glad he can’t run again.”
“Sixty-eight percent of respondents said they would vote for someone else, while only 26 percent said they would be willing to give the president four more years.”
http://thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/250715-poll-obama-wouldnt-win-third-term
So we blame Obama for Trump too?
Next up…blame Obama for flatulence and bad table manners too.
The hate never ends.
Only idiots pay attention to these polls. Both times Obama ran if you listened to these moronic polls he was supposed to lose and lose handily, instead he won handily both times and he is right, he would win again. Polls are worthless, only there to entertain idiots.
I don’t blame FCA at all for raising the price. It’s a hot car, they just doubled production, and dealers are making a killing on the market adjustments. Why not grab some of that extra cash for themselves. That Renegade Trackhawk needs funding!
“Why not grab some of that extra cash for themselves.”
Particularly now that every media outlet in existence, basing their “analysis” on MSRP rather than transaction prices, has already shouted to the heavens how great a value Hellcat cars are.
Seems to be the prevailing logic around CAFE is raise the price to meet demand rather than make more. Makes sense to to me. Seems to be what GM is doing with the Tahoe and I hear FCA will jack up the price of the next wrangler too for the same reason. My feeling is I;m happy they build them and if they need to make more on each one to do it seems like a reasonable plan.
Also per the forums and true car it looks like you are still paying above sticker for a hell cat but the average seems more like 4-5k over.
Nice things should be reserved for the wealthy. Isn’t that what the Democrats run on?
If “nice things” impose externalities (like the need for an expensive, hard-on-the-military foreign policy that kowtows to crazy Wahhabi extremists that would really rather blow us up), someone’s gotta pay them. Better the buyer of the “nice thing” than all of us.
We have plenty of oil right here at home. The same people that like using the word externalities keep us from accessing much of the most accessible of it, necessitating our involvement in the middle east. You think buyers of overpriced cars are paying for your belief system? It’s paid for by people getting pushed out of the middle class, which does probably correlate to creating people willing to enlist in a military led by a complete charlatan.
Hold your horses, CJ, the Trumpster ain’t president yet.
Limiting those ‘externalities’ you are so in love with is the reason that the average number of days L.A. had an ozone health advisory has fallen from 150 to 0 in a generation.
Do you want to breathe, or do you want to lease an A7? You may not have the means to do both.
“which does probably correlate to creating people willing to enlist in a military led by a complete charlatan”
Yeah, I know. I can’t believe a Commander in Chief could volunteer for safe stateside service during the Vietnam War, from which his evil VP received 5 deferments from, yet bang on about patriotism while sending a couple hundred thousand soldiers to do the hard work they were never willing to. You’d have to be seriously retarded to vote for such a charlatan twice if you had any respect for the military or its personnel.
If I remember correctly part of the reason the MiddleEast is the way it is now is due to USA and British manipulation of the region decades ago.
The Shah of Iran was put in place because the prior regime was going to nationalize its oil reserves and oil production.
We can’t have “Socialist” oil now can we?
Looks like the USA is still paying the price in the Middle East for “Conservative” oil.
Detroit is figuring out that building too many units just cheapens the brand.
The primary purpose of a halo car is to sell other cars. The performance halo should be alluring, not a bargain.
Roads crowded with the best Mopars are going to sell far more of their average products than a few magazine articles about unattainable trim packages.
That certainly explains why Ferrari makes a competitor to the Honda Civic.
Oh, wait a minute…
They would if they could, but they don’t have the chops. Darts are dying on the vine. Ferrari is Fiat’s halo which makes my point by failing to sell their crummy cars. They need stand out cars that can sell at 3-series numbers and prices, so they can be seen on the road and associated with success.
Now were just being silly.
It’s CJ’s tinfoil hat, mopar…we’re all just living in it.
“Darts are dying on the vine. Ferrari is Fiat’s halo which makes my point by failing to sell their crummy cars.”
Well, if Dodge were selling a LaFerrari, I suppose it’d be a proper halo. But last I checked, Ferrari was a different brand, sold at different dealers, to a completely different clientele.
(And, yes, the Dart sucks…but I can think of another compact that sucks far worse…the Corolla, for example.)
“..the Dart sucks…but I can think of another compact that sucks far worse…the Corolla, for example.”
“Sucks” is so freely and opaquely ascribed to nearly every car discussed on TTAC, but I think you’ve provided a little light on its meaning.
YTD Dart: 54,921
YTD Corolla: 220,380
Ergo, in Car-Guyana “sucks” = “sells” and you’re right! Corolla sucks almost exactly 4 times as much as Dart!
@FreedMike – a tinfoil hat is in fact a hemisphere.
Just put a Hellcat badge on it and you can make an extra 50 bucks a piece selling them.
Despite CAFE we still have horsepower wars and ever dropping 0-60 times. Me thinks that everything is pretty much fine with the world. We are basically getting faster, safer and cleaner cars every year with very little increase in the cost of the average car. Seems fine by me.
Sacrilege! Surely the sky is falling, any day now, because [insert political party] did [insert heinous deed] and the world is about to end!
Or because a volume Ford sedan now has a turbo.
Are you me?
If you can already throw 60K+ away on a toy, so what?
I think FCA needs to charge alot more. Take every penny they have and then some. A fool and his money will soon be parted. If there are ignorant people out there, get their money before they file bankruptcy or have to be committed for being insane.
Growing up is hard to do as you see from many of the comments here.
If FCA looks at avg transaction price and sees dealers making a way bigger profit than they are, is there another sane response?
Yes, there is another response – blame Obama.
Oh, that’s right, I forgot…you were looking for sane responses…
>> Yes, there is another response – blame Obama.
or blame anchor babies.
HELLCAT prices are up; #Thanks Obama
Meh, I don’t feel the thrill.
Too many people can afford Hellcats. Chrysler can’t produce enough. They want some of that dealer markup for themselves. Price is raised.
Anyone who thinks it goes further than that is thinking too hard.
“Chrysler can’t produce enough.”
Sure it can. The Hellcat is not a technologically complex or hard-to-make product. It chooses not to, because artificial scarcity gets it a lot of good publicity that reaches a lot more people than actually will ever buy a Hellcat. The scarcity is purely a business decision.
Same goes for the SRT and Scat Pack cars. Plenty of V6 and 5.7 models are getting built. Or maybe they’re sitting on the lots so long it just seems that way.
You’re right. I should have said, “Chrysler, for whatever reasons, chooses not to produce enough.”
I’d love to own a Hellcat – but can’t afford the car, the insurance, or the gas!
If monster V8s go away, keep in mind we now have about 600lb motorcycles with around 200hp, ABS, and traction control, with warranty, at dealers for under $20,000 – and no insurance required in my state – Florida! You can buy a 300hp motorcycle from your Kawasaki dealer – but it’s not street legal. OTH, you can get a license for essentially any vehicle in FL :)
Its called taking profits.
The forgotten middle child of hi-performance Challengers – the SRT 392. Can’t hang with the Hellcat, and far more expensive than the Scat Pack. My local Dodge dealer just sold a $51K SRT8 in June – and it was a 2014 model! Sorry, Dodge, but the SRT is not $10K+ better than an equivalent Mustang or Camaro.
What I want to know is if there is any price increase on the Scat Pack. There’s currently an $8K difference between it and the SRT. A $3K price increase, and I’ll probably give up on trying to acquire one.
I know the Scat Pack isn’t technically an SRT product. But it is the replacement for the 2014 SRT Core model, and arrives at dealer lots covered in SRT signage.
I like the SRT 392 as a sedan — in fact, it’s my favorite LX car. As a sedan.
As a sedan-sized coupe, not so much.
