With the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado having been unveiled at the North American International Auto Show earlier this year, the GMC Sierra is unlikely to give us many surprises in terms of hardware when it shows up in March. But, as it’s also being fully redesigned for 2019, the Sierra won’t look the same as previous incarnations and still has to differentiate itself from its Chevy sibling.
Based upon the shadowy teaser image, now a common practice within the industry, the recipe for telling the two apart will remain largely unchanged. While the new Silverado adopted even smaller headlamps than the outgoing model, the Sierra will persist with fresh versions of the large C-shaped units. Unlike Chevy’s split grille, the GMC is likely to have singular “chrome” reaching beyond the top of the headlights. The Sierra is assured to have unique taillights and wheels as well.
Spy shots have suggested the two pickups will also have specially designed wheel-wells — rounded in the front and squared in the back to create a D-shape. Beyond that, we’re not expecting terribly disparate bodywork.
The same should be true of the engines provided. GMC’s Sierra should come available with the same 5.3 or 6.2-liter V8 that the Silverado does. We’d presume it’ll have the all-new 3.0-liter straight-six diesel mated to a 10-speed automatic too. Both of the V8s will have cylinder deactivation while the 6.2-liter will probably have the 10-speed as an available option.
General Motors is waiting until Thursday to announce anything official about trim configurations, but we’d expect to see with a rough-and-trouble All-Terrain variant as well as something wearing the ultra-profitable Denali label soon after launch. The truck will debut in Detroit later this week, and we’ll let you know for certain then.

Or do like Ford and make the 10-speed standard on practically everything but the lowest powered bargain basement configuration?
Eh to the teaser image, you’re launching the truck in 2 days – I’ll wait. Although with all the noise that’s being made about “increasing differentiation between GMC and Chey” I’m a little worried that the price gap is going to get bigger between them.
The Silverado’s parents had to pay it’s cousin to take it to the prom. The Sierra almost has to look better by default.
Any information on that diesel?
I’m going on the premise that GM has no clue how to counter the F150 and Ram 1500’s diesel so they made a vague premature ejacu….. announcement to look like they have a tool in the game.

Sounds about right since I searched the internet high and low and could not find any information about a new diesel let alone an existing engine that was similar in other company portfolios.

GM evokes a lot of negativity on the part of some of ttac’s B&B. Decades of bad ownership experiences in the past culminating in the death of GM in 2009.
Add to that the nationalization of GM in 2009 and the more than $11Billion the tax payers got stuck for, and maybe even your friend can read between the lines about the hostility towards GM.

No need to yell, but you’re correct. If I had 50 cents for every truck I saw with a pristine bed, I could buy an F-350 crew cab diesel, in platinum trim.
If I could get a penny for every unoccupied seat in a sedan, minivan or crossover I’ve seen, I’d be able to buy the name “Oldsmobile” from GM and start working on a new lineup.
So, is your point that people who do not always use their vehicles to their capabilities shouldn’t have them? Then I’m guessing you have a CR-Z with one seat removed to drive when ever you’re alone? Or did you buy the vehicle you wanted, one equipped with capabilities you may not use at all times?
Those tax ramifications are a bigger deal than we give them credit for. For example- you buy a new $45000 sedan and use it 100% for business. Your maximum 1st year depreciation is $11160. If you buy a new light truck/SUV (GVW under 6000 lbs) and use it 100% for business, the maximum 1st year depreciation is $11560.00. This would cover any light truck or SUV smaller than, say, a Tahoe.
If you buy a new heavy SUV (GVW over 6000 lbs), same conditions, your maximum 1st year depreciation is $37,000. But wait, there’s more…
If you buy a new heavy truck (defined as GVW of over 6000 lbs, and a bed length of 6′ or more)and use it 100% for business, your maximum 1st year depreciation is… the ENTIRE cost of the vehicle.
If you bought a used car or truck, your first year depreciation is maxed at $3160/$3560 respectively.
