GMC finally has a new date in mind for the Hummer reveal: Tuesday, October 20.
The all-electric SUV and truck were supposed to be unveiled to the world back in late May, but well, you know.
We’ve also learned that Crab Mode, which we wrote about last week, isn’t a new venereal disease that sleazebag tourists need to avoid while on the wrong side of town in certain cities. It’s a feature that uses the Hummer EV’s four-wheel steering to allow the vehicle to move diagonally. That could come in handy off-road.
Not only will the reveal be shown on October 20 – no details yet on what time or how to watch – but interested customers can begin making reservations that day.
Other details we know so far? GMC promises “up to” 1,000 horsepower, “up to” 11,500 lb-ft of torque (not a typo), and 0-60 mph in an estimated 3 seconds. Those other numbers are factory estimates, too. Hummer should be on sale in the fall of 2021.
The video below shows an actual crab before showing a low-angle shot of the vehicle’s tires moving diagonally on a beach somewhere. We suspected Crab Mode would do something like this.
All will be revealed next month.

It’s a shame Honda have already taken the crab commercials. I’d be curious to see what GM come up with.
Maybe just a little pinch.
Maybe they could steel the Real People ads. “Betty has crabs, she is waiting give her husband, Kyle, crabs. Wait until he finds out.”

OK I figured this would be a software-only certain-motors-forward-other-motors-back thing (with a lot of tire scrub). This is way beyond that.
Expect an impressive turning radius.
Can’t call a Cadillac a Fleetwood or Seville but can make something called Hummer with Crab Mode.
What is going to happen when GM finds only 10,000 customers a year for this electric hummer. Remember, what a failure the last Cadillac EV was. They could not even sell a thousand a year! This vehicle won’t even be around in five years.
This fits in a lot better to the GM customer DEMO then the ELR did. I think it sticks around for a while depending on range.
I think a lot of these premium EV trucks supposedly about to explode onto the market will be
A) much more expensive than originally advertised, surprisingly more expensive.
B) purchased is far smaller numbers than all the current hype attempts to imply (because of A).
Tesla’s supposed $40,000 Cyber Truck, which will never be produced as presented, and which can’t possibly cost so little and still be profitable for the company, will be a flop. It will be like the Semi or the new Roadster. Deposits accepted, then nothing but crickets until you’re too old to drive anyway. Lordstown Motors, Rivian, Bollinger,… vaporware is an overused word but it’s still needed unfortunately.
Consumers weren’t going to pay twice as much for a tarted up Volt.
