EV drivers, take note — if you use Electrify America’s app to find chargers, the app will soon have support for both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
This means if your car is so equipped, you’ll be able to use either CarPlay or Auto to activate the app and find nearby chargers — all of the company’s approximately 650 charging stations are listed — as well as to see if chargers are in use or what capacity they have. The app can also be used to remotely start and stop charging sessions.
This news comes as Electrify America aims to triple its network over the next four years. It also puts the company more on par with Tesla, which uses its in-car software to help drivers find the nearest Supercharger location.
This is hardly earth-shattering news, but it does mean life is about to get more convenient for those who drive non-Tesla EVs and often find themselves looking for chargers in unfamiliar areas.
It’s one more small step towards improving EV charging infrastructure. Not quite as good as an increase in the number of chargers, but helpful nonetheless.

Chargepoint already has an Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with that functionality. You can check availability, pricing, and navigate right from it.
Better yet, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto users can use the free PlugShare app, which covers all vendors like Electrify America. Filters include plug type, and whether location is paid/free.
I’ve used plugshare for 7 years now. The reviews of the location can me be good. Nissan has had the navigate to nearest charging station for years now, so it’s not just Tesla.
One thing that Tesla has that I’m not sure if the other makers have is that not only will it give you directions to the nearest charging station, but will precondition the battery for charging prior to arrival. I doubt you’d get that with the Electrify America app.
it will be easier for user to get their car charged at these plug station points . If they will triple charging station in coming four years.
I thought “Electrify America” was about getting more, much more, generating capacity to charge this new tsunami of EV’s.

Thank you for another great article. I remember when IHs were all over the place where my grandparents lived (N KY near Warsaw, KY). There was a local Oldsmobile International dealer where my grandparents lived. My grandfather bought a 64 Olds 98, 63 IH 1000 pickup, and a 68 IH Loadstar tandem axle truck from that dealership. IH were good solid vehicles except like most vehicles of that era the rust would do them in.
My nephew has restored the 63 IH and it has historic plates on it.
